"We have electric blankets", the woman on the phone had said. Now that sounded like a promise! We had read about Lijiang, a little old village at the foot of Snow Dragon Jade Mountain, and we heard that there might be minus degrees by night. If they have electric blankets, we can go, we decided. When Zhao junior (fabulous Zhao Shushu's son) told us …

Dali also has a reputation for extremely high winds that, we were told, for about 35 days a year they are particularly strong so that they disrupt movement around the city. Pouring with rain when i arrived i flagged down a taxi to take me to the hostel where i got a dorm bed. It felt very strange to be traveling again on my own after such a long time in one place, i felt like i had nearly settled in Yangshuo. The next day it was pouring with rain again so i ...

... site, just dust, gravel and heavy machinery. Excited by the fact that we were now on the move again our driver decided to put his foot down to make up for lost time, picking up speed and sending dust clouds everywhere. All going well until far too late he spotted a big dip in the road, braked suddenly and in spectacular style the bus started to travel sideways! Lots of gasps from the passengers, boxes and bags sliding everywhere until ...
