... what, at two and a half hours, is one of our shortest truck journeys. Here we will stay a record five nights- the longest we have chosen between home and Bangkok. There is another change of personnel to occur in Kunming, and originally we were scheduled to be travelling the six hour journey there on Thursday, only to return on Friday. No disrespect to the province's capital, but this is not an opportunity to see Florence that we're spurning. As the weeks ...

I was thinking of taking a look around but the city doesn’t offer much in the way of sightseeing and the smog there was terrible so I instead opt to head direct to the train station. Besides, I only have a couple of hours till my train to Kunming is due to leave.

... before splitting, making a random turn or revealing a farmer on his bike. Often we'd reach a dead end or simply the swampy lake shore, forcing us to backtrack and try our luck diving down some other alleys. Once we reached the edge of a town, we'd be surrounded by fields and farmers and would follow their farming paths to the next labyrinth of houses. It was wonderful. Every turn seemed to open another window into the rural life of Yunnan province. One time the road ...
