We pass 5 days at Sandat Mas cottages and it was really nice. Quiet place with a swimmingpool and very clean rooms. It was a littlte bit expensive in comparison with the North of Bali (350'000 rps without A/C), but we enjoy staying there.

The previous night we were sat watching TV when the signal started to drop out, then a car alarm outside the hotel started to sound, and before long the bed started to shake too. It turned out it was the tremors of an earthquake. Albeit a minor one, but it was still a another first for the trip!

Today is the start of Ramadan, which lasts for one month. Most of Bali in Hindu so they do not observe this Muslim holiday but Gili T likely will be. I haven't been able to sleep more than about 6 hours per night in awhile. We cleaned two turtle ...

... been too bad except that the waves were large and it was approaching high tide, resulting in a treacherous entry with strong currents. We fought our way out of the mouth of the cavern and, as we were starting to paddle across the water to get around the breaking waves, the current kept pushing us closer and closer to the jagged rocks that form the cliffs in that spot. One wave put both Andy and I within inches of them! If there had happened to be one more wave at that ...

... friend Tobi who was to join us for a few weeks. We picked her up without any trouble and got a couple rooms in Kuta for the night.

Kuta is Bali's tourism capital and is easy with which to have a love/hate relationship. You arrive in Kuta to a flurry of motorbikes sputtering and honking through a bustling maze of narrow streets and shopfronts. Every few feet you are begged to buy some piece of worthless junk so cheap some of it is actually tempting, and if you ...
