Bangkok

Day 1 - Went to downtown Bangkok to the Vietnamese Embassy to pick up our visas. We had to wait until 4pm to pick them up so went for a walk around the town. The rich business area is really fancy and there is every designer shop imaginable. It's also the same area as the protests, there are lots of tents full of protesters and Thai army to keep …

Nosing around Bangkok

Hello again, Blogonauts!

When I'm on my own, I often simply follow my nose more than a set itinerary. Sometimes that means walking toward a curious scent, other times my nose turns toward an intriguing trinket or a mysterious marvel, and still other times I simply find myself somewhere I didn't expect. Bangkok offered all these …

A bit camp, tacky and full of food!

So after a five hour coach ride, two plane journeys and a taxi we have finally arrived in the bustling city of Bangkok.

We arrived at our guesthouse at 10am – our room was not ready until 1pm so we set off into the sprawl of Bangkok. After visiting the riverside we went to the National Museum – an amazing Aladdin’s cave …

'One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble'

Somewhere between the jet lag, adrenaline and the total tidal wave of sensory information hitting me all at once as I stepped out of the underground train station in Bangkok, I fell in love.

Not the dreamy sunset over the gentle Mediterranean ocean kinda love...the kind of intense overload of emotions that makes you break a sweat. …

A big ass Buddha & the King of Thailand

So picture this.... We are standing there looking up at the Buddhas feet which are 20 feet high and 20 feet long. They are made up of a mixture of granite and really intricate designs in mother of pearl. I ask J what makes mother of pearl so particularly special as opposed to normal pearl......His reply "well it comes out of the sea. Innit" Genius …

A unique guesthouse that fully deserves its great reputation. The thing that makes this guesthouse is the staff - very friendly and very helpful. The location also allows you to be in walking distance of the main sights without being among the hustle and bustle of the city. Highly recommended.

Lovely staff. Great location for exploring sights. Room was clean and spacious....but walls are incredibly thin so if you get noisy neighbors it's a long night. Breakfast included, basic but fresh.

Clean rooms. Very friendly staff and just offside Khao San Road. Nothing more you could want. Bathrooms are shared but absolutely (!!!) clean. My advise for your budget stay in Bangkok!

Very cozy, clean and nice place. Great reliable wifi. Rooms are tiny. Be sure to not be sold on an extra bed in a double room as you won't have room for any luggage or walking around. Shared bathrooms. Breakfast included, but won't fill a tooth. 10 minute walk from Khao San. Night guard speaks no english. Overall, good value.
