Finally, outside of the big city

Kanchanburi is located in Central Thailand and even though it isn't full on jungle, it couldn’t be more different to Bangkok. We stayed at a backpacker’s hostel for 2 nights, somewhere right next to the river, with a beautiful garden overlooking the bank, that had coconut trees and hammocks in-between them, where you could really relax …

Kanchanaburi - Elephant's World

Thanks to the fact that I have no class on Thursdays, I was able to head over the Kanchanaburi and spend the day at Elephants World yesterday. Unlike my previous trip to this region, the facility I visited this time can really be called a sanctuary. Founded in 2008 by Dr. Samart Prasithpol, Elephant's World functions as a retirement home for …

Hello :)

Since flight prices were extremely high, my trip to Singapore was postponed so, my friend Sarah and I decided to go on a little trip to Kanchanaburi just a couple of hours away from Bangkok. It actually turned out to be quite the traveling experience since this was the first time we weren't traveling in a group. Once you're in …

Kanchanaburi

After arriving in Bangkok at 5.30am on the 24th, we checked in and napped until noon. When we unlocked our bags we noticed all our clothes had been moved. Stewart had a travel pillow and shorts stolen, and Holly a packet of baby wipes?! They chose to leave the broken fuji camera, mobile phone and gifts we bought. The buses to and from Khao San road …

I'd visited Kanchanaburi years ago but decided to go back anyway because I loved it previously. Had an unusual start to the trip when, waiting at the train station, I was interviewed for a tv channel in Thailand about safety after the recent bombings in Bangkok - not exactly a cheery subject given I was just about to board a tourist laden train! …

Great view, good price

For 600 Bahts, we got a one bedroom raft house directly located on the river Kwai. Equipped with AC and its own bathroom, the raft house was very satisfying. The only down side we found was the lack of decent sheets or pillows on the bed and the paper-thin walls. Nonetheless, we got what we paid for and the view was fantastic.

Good place

Nice place. Sam is cool. The rooms are literally floating on the water. The prices are good. Some have A.C., which would be nice. Don't expect too much in the way of appearance (there are water stains and it is a little old looking in the rooms) and you'll have a great stay.
