... I still wasn't fully recovered, though, and exhausted from fighting the infection, so we went to bed early, agreeing to check out the college town scene (Stellenbosch is home to the University of Stellenbosch, one of the best universities in South Africa) the next night.

The next morning, March 14 (Day 79), we explored Stellenbosch. The city is very cute, filled with cafes, gourmet restaurants and boutiques, as well as ...

... moon type landscapes we found ourselves surrounded by green pastures as far as the eye could see. And then came the Winelands themselves. The occasional shower on the drive up cleared as we arrived at our first port of call, Fairview Estate for an opportunity to do a wine tasting with an expert sommelier Jaques. Jaques is a highly trained expert who's purpose in life is to match quality wines from the estate with appropriate foods. Whilst it was only 10am at the time ...

... is a lot of still undeveloped land that could spell intensive expansion if they so desired. The buildings are quaint, with thatched roofs and the elegant swirl and twirl at the roofline of the fašade above the doors. We have a memorable tasting here and leave with nothing but warm feelings and a continuing desire to support this estate with our wine purchases. Oh, and we may have purchased a few bottles.
