It's 2:40 am and I'm getting ready to travel to the USA for the 2nd time in my life.
The first time was in 1999 when I visited my grandmother in Sarasota, FL. I was just a teenager at the time and stayed for a month while school was on holidays - my sister and I.
This time around I'm going to spend the Holidays with my mother who I haven't seen in 9 years. She's ...
... Thanks again Meg and Kim for all of that helpful information about Bequia. We then headed down to the local street market and picked up some fresh fruits from Sunshine. Sunshine was very entertaining.
We still had not stepped foot on the beach.
We finally headed to the beach, which was just 50 steps from our front door, and it was absolutely amazing. The views, foliage, and water were incredible. Words and pictures can't ...
... contracting will eventually crash in upon itself. Personally I like playing (carefully) with the dogs I find enroute, many of them homeless and living off market scraps. It's not exactly 'Dancing with Wolves' or 'Dog Whisperer", but certainly better than 'Sleeping with Dogs', an unpublished screenplay I have yet to write. We're a crucial part of their evolution. They need us. So I'm stuck in Nieuw Nickerie waiting for the ferry. Fortunately I allowed ...
St. Vincent, Grenadines/St Vincent hardiek... something. I said, no but I found the sign amusing. He said it made it seem like the vendors were bad. I agreed. But, I told him that it was difficult knowing who to buy from without hurting the others. He said simply that you buy some from each. So I started with him. I asked him about the christophenes, a squash which is called chayote in the US. Some were light green and others were dark green. He said they are just like him and me. We ...
The Grenadines, Grenadines/St Vincent questmiller... see most of what is interesting. As we drove along the edge of the island, we noted places that we wanted to go in our boat. We stopped at the "only drive-in volcano in the Caribbean". Be glad that this is not "smell-a-vision". The sulphur smell from the boiling mineral springs filled our noses with the delightfully pungent aroma of rotten eggs. After leaving Rodney Bay, we headed south a few miles to Marigot Bay. This is one of the most photographed bays for the ...
Union Island, Grenadines/St Vincent questmiller... the Bequia Bookshop is your place. (784-458-3905) Historically, Port Elizabeth was a place of boat building. However, as the carriages of the sea transformed from wood to steel, the town adapted by taking the same skills and craftsmanship and applying them to building model boats. Throughout the streets of Bequia small boat building shops can be found. Here visitors can both buy model boats, some costing as ...
Bequia, Grenadines/St Vincent nklenske... hardware stores within a walk or bus ride. Ullie at Destination St. Lucia (DSL) was a tremendous help. We ordered electric heads and a replacement water pump from Port Supply in the States and they were delivered for $74 by FedEx in three days! We were very impressed. We had one complete new electric head installed and decided to save the conversion kit for the second head until the end of the cruise. Al replaced the water pump and head faucet. We will replace the second ...
St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenadines/St Vincent freespirit2006... furious and Eyvind thought it was so funny he even tried to trade me off for a few lobsters... (I wonder what my price would have been?) I never talked much with William, but he was relentless and kept waving at me and coming over to propose to me. I normally don't mind comments or catcalls when it's obvious I don't have a partner by my side while travelling, but this was a bit too much not having encouraged anything in any way...
Mustique to Tobago Cays, Grenadines/St Vincent psykokristin... in time my old mum pulled out all the stops and fed-exed my new card to the British Embassy, where the embassy lady actually started poking me to report to my mum how thin I had become, only in the Caribbean would this happen... By the time I finally made it to the set, I was cast as a rower in a longboat, just paddling back and forth, up and down, for 14hrs a day dressed like a complete sailor boy even down to make up on my teeth, to make me look that extra bit ...
Kingstown, Grenadines/St Vincent kingston... likey see these people on the beach or in the bakery in the morning collecting their croissants. After leaving Mustique, we headed down to Union again to work with the Tabago Cays Marine Park Rangers (like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers- except these guys have a boat, and don't tend to wear pink lycra- they also combat French Charter boats, rather than Xargon, King of the Martians- I digress) Things went really well, we got on great with them, met a lot of nice people on ...
