A Great Return Visit
This is my second visit to the Richmond Guest House, the first was nearly 18
months ago and i have to admit some changes have been made parts of the place
were a little bit tired looking , they had a big fire there and both john and
the building took quite a battering but john has done quite a lot of work
since my last …

Dovedale, then ferry to Wellington
We were grateful that we'd slept on the floor of the yurt – there had been a frost overnight – we would have been freezing in the van. We said our goodbyes to Deb and Freya by 9am – Aika had left work just after 7am. We stopped in Richmond to use the library as I needed to submit an insurance claim for a filter for my camera which …
Day Eight & Nine @ WELLINGTON
DAY EIGHT 18 Feb 2011 Packed my bags and boarded the Bluebridge Ferry to Wellington. Sailing time is 0800h. The Ferry is grand – carpeted, with plush seats, and on-board entertainment. No loud boat-engine noise either. The water was calm throughout the journey, I'm pretty certain no one on board got sea-sick... I wasn’t feeling too good …

This B & B is in an old building run by John, who is an older chap. The place is done to his taste - maybe a bit old fashioned for some. I'd say it was homely. We paid $85 a night including breakfast in a double en-suite room.
The room was spacious, a heater and hairdryer was provided. The bed was comfortable and we slept well even though we were in the room right next to the kitchen. The shower was good - although the first morning there was a fault with the water heater so I ended up having a cold shower.
Close enough to the city to walk, parking outside. Would recommend.

The guest rooms are simply but comfortably done up. Mine comes with a wrought iron double bed, a basic wardrobe and an attached bathroom. It's fairly clean and feels homely. The downside is its location, in a hilly neighborhood and about 20mins walk to the city edge. Be prepared to walk if you want to save on cab fare.
