Riad Lapis-Lazuli Marrakech

Confirming my ever-strong belief in fate and allworking out eventually, we ended up in Morocco right on time for the 2009 Marrakech Film Festival! As film fanatics, we hot-well, actually cold-footed it-from freezing cold Casa to Marrakech making it just in time for films galore...

Marrakech is most definitely my favorite city thus far. I hate to say it is also one of the most touristy places we have visited thus far. There are countless souks or small shopping area throughout central Marrakesh. They stretch for miles in every direction and sell anything and everything. I walk through the souks and within about 45 minutes I am directionally challenged. The souks are a maze. ... uncommon to see recent guests such as Demi Moore. I could tell it was high class - we had to walk through a metal detector to get in. Hey, at least it was safe! After that we headed to Jad Mahal, a local night club and enjoyed the music for a little bit. It was more of a lounge setting - we actually walked in the bar with them singing Amy Whinehouse's "Rehab"...accompanied by traditional Moroccan dancers! Finally, he took us home...it was a long day!

... A few dirhams are nothing for these memories. Their friendly smiles will meet you in conversation and the next thing you know you are laughing over kebabs and tajines. The cooks in the background are entertainment alone as they dance crazily behind mounds of food. Big smiles and laughs are worth the risk of food poisoning here.
