... half the tour left and the rest of us brave souls were going to pray for dry weather! 8 of us set out at 9:30 on a trail that ran along the cliffs over looking the Lauterbrennen valley. It was suppose to be easy, there is a train that runs along it so if things got bad... rain ... we could get on in Winteregg, about halfway through the hike.

... is more like fly instead of fall because some of these guys were wearing what I will call a flying squirrel suit. When they pop their shoots it sounds just like a jet. One odd thing is that of the 20 or so that we saw I think I only heard on guy yell. Otherwise it was a silent fall.

Whitecaps to Snowcaps

As we leave Italy early in the morning we can see the white caped waves of the Mediterranean going out of view as the train turns the corner. Ahead of us is the Swiss alps, and the weather is not looking all that great. Our memories of the sea are fading as we enter Switzerland and see the snowcaps. This is a long travel day as there are a lot of train miles to cover.

... one complete lap of the top during the meal! Then we took photos from the viewing gallery before we headed off. The cloud was rising up the hill and was beginning to close in on Birg just after lunch.
The afternoon run involved the simple matter of skiing down to Lauterbrunnen. This involved leaving the Schilthorn at 2970m and getting to the railway station for the ski locker at 796m. It may be possible to do this without catching any lifts up the hill but this is ...
