We had a full day to enjoy in Florence but were determined to slow down, get some rest and not try to match the cracking pace we set yesterday. The only problem was we had a tour starting at 7:45! We had to get a taxi to the tour office and once we'd identified where we had to be, then had coffee and croissant at a caffe around the corner. This tour was expensive but was advertised as a small group experience. There were only five in our group as we were joined by ...

During the tour we were only outside but did intent to return later to explore inside.

There's a hour long wait to get into a cathedral. Uncle Doug pulls out a dollar bill and says "I'll let mr. Washington take care of this... " Also, aunt Maria keeps calling one euro a "dollar euro" and the first thing she said to allesandros mom translated to "I wish bad things upon you." Florence was incredible! I didn't last long in the art museum, ok, only about 20 mins, but maddy loved it. ...

... only ones caught with the poor weather.

Our hotel was easy to find as we had walked by it on our trip in by train several days earlier. One of the guides that we had read suggested that Florence was better appreciated through its indoor masterpieces than its city scape. We can agree as we have spent time in Siena and now in Ravenna; both much prettier cities.

But the art and sculpture, the frescoes would be hard to beat ...
