... drive through the Tuscan countryside. We visited the museum for a look at a model of the town. Amazing detail. After a quick taste of the local wine and biscuits we wandered off for a look around the town and of course gelatos. This place had own best for 2007 and 2008 and they were absolutely delicious. The shops are lovely and the views to the country side spectacular. I bought a pair of Florence made leather shoes and the ...

... and was so nice and so cute. At the end of the dinner he gave us complementary strawberry wine. It was so good. Later on that night we went to a bar called The Lion's Fountain and then after to The Red Garter. Definitely a successful first night out in Florence.

... the Pisa monument who had just returned to the bus for their ride to the hotel.

An hour later we dragged ourselves up the most gorgeous hill in Tuscany to Hotel Villa Saulina. Quite a big adventure for us. We dined in an outdoor patio overlooking the olive trees and vineyards, we took a night swim under the stars, shared a bottle of chianti we bought in town with Georgia and collapsed in bed (a huge upgrade from the previous evenings bunks on the train couchette!). ...

... this long...well, ever. I think we will go to Carlo Menta for dinner on Friday and then out to explore the city and celebrate my birthday! I am excited to show them around the city now that I have my bearings and it will be great to have some familiar faces around.
