Christmas Break Part 4 - Barcelona

After another high speed train ride, we found ourselves in Barcelona around 5:00. We figured out the metro system and landed at our stop shortly after. It was getting dark and was pouring down rain (this was a theme during our travel days. Wet luggage = not good!). We had directions to our hostel, but when we started looking around, none of the streets said what we wanted. So, we went and asked some directions. A nice little lady in one of the shops pointed the way. After walking a while, we ...

Barcelona Day 2

Covered a lot of ground today in Barcelona. Bought tickets to the tour bus, which goes around the city providing commentary in various languages. We rode 2 routes of the bus, 2 hours each. Hopped off a bus and toured Gaudi's masterpiece Casa Milŕ a.k.a. La Pedrera, an amazingly organic-looking house.
We had lunch at La Ramblas, the main and most famous (and most pickpocket-riddled) pedestrian street of Barcelona. The service here is uniformly horrible as far as we've seen. The waiters make...

Barcelona - day of Gaudi

This was our first day in Barcelona. In the morning we stepped into a classic Catalan cafe which is at close proximity to our hotel and had some delicious tortillas. Most cafes here have a bar-style sitting in front of the counter, that is what we also did. This was enjoyable as you can order more easily pointing out the food and communicate with the service guys. The guy at the cafe was very energetic, talkative and helpful but didn't know a word of English. But somehow we managed to communi...

Barcelona - Day 1

... bus to view the city. The bus ticket kiosk was in a lovely park. There were two fountains, although only one was functioning. There were tons of pigeons in the center that everyone was feeding. The park is called Placa Catalunya. Here there are also two pieces of art. One is the statue "La Deesa" (the goddess) and the other is a monument to Francesc Macia. There were some Filipino ladies in front of us in line that had ...

Organic is ORGASMIC!

... dishes and plenty of fresh fruit. They are very good about that here, fresh fruit is always available and is a real treat. One of our flatmates recognized me from Facebook and all five of us sat together. We soon discovered we were all vegetarians, except Brittany, and must have been housed together because of it, with Brittany hitched up with me as the poor carnivorous oddball. Despite my long history of vegtarianism, I made a vow to eat whatever in Spain ...

Surfing in Barcelona

... br>
My first surf was quite nice. I stayed with a young couple in the middle of the city. And, I stayed in their office, not on a couch but on a fold-out bed. The girl is a psychology student and the guy is an engineer. They were soooo sweet. They gave me all sorts of maps and brochures, and they helped me figure out what to do. And then we had dinner together with two of their friends who came over, and then we all went out to a bar for ...

Barcelona, grad lijepih prostitutki..

Hola Barcelona!

... there happened to be workers nearby with a Philips screwdriver handy to fix it). That night we hit the town again, and even tried out one of the standard European nightclubs that only open at 2am (right about the time when Londoners start heading to Sammy's Souvlaki to finish the night!). On our last full day in Barcelona, we headed to Park Gruell, Gaudi's famous park from which visitors have the most spectacular view of the ...

I'm a fan of Barca now.

So After teh pickpocketing I was sad. But I got over it, and the next day we headed to see the massive football stadium in Barcelona. The place is huge! 100000 people can go, and wouldn't you know we went to the wrong side of it and had to walk all the way around it. Its big believe me. That wasn't the most exciting part for us though. Right across from the stadium they have....can you believe it...a hockey rink! My heart was palpitating madly, and I excitedly hurried up to the ...

... swedish meeetballs but yikes, the spanish and their siestas deprived me of it :/ one thing you can never understand or never fail to be frustrated by, is how the spanish have such weird working hours. banks close by 2pm, Almost everything is closed on Sundays, etc... anyway nick has his car now in barcelona; it's a chic BMW convertible and it was simply amazing having the sun shinning and the cool wind brush ...
