... leads to the lake and a 30 metre long pebbled 'beach' with spectacular views of the town, lake and mountains. Back in town we go to the bakery to get some lunch. There were no meat pies at all but we got some panchetto, local soft cheese, fresh bread and a few pastries. This lunch looking out onto the lake and mountains was worth a million dollars. A beautiful 90 minute trip down the East side of the lake sees us back in Milan for a meal the girls have concocted. Before ...

From the train you walk through the new town and can get a funicular up the very steep part, it's more than a 45 degree angle and the little cable car only takes 16-20 people (far better than climbing that many steps though). The new town is clean and looks ...

Road to San Siro Snowed Over

... Robinho goal and a Zlatan penalty left it 4-0 at the full time whistle. There was something very satisfying about the way in which AC Milan had won at such a canter, as if they knew what I had been through crossing The Alps and wanted to give me a footballing treat. Maybe if the Arsenal players had been made to pedal over The Simplon Pass, they may have been more up for the fight.

If I needed confirmation that this was the end of the road for this ...
