Well here I go with Neil's cold. Scratchy throat and not feeling the best.

Off to Lucca at 8.45 am. This was a lovely little walled town where we wandered around and then walked the walls.

Bought myself a beautiful silk scarf here and what's more it was made in Italy. Lucca was famous for its silk in the old days.

We found a beautiful old roman forum which had been demolished and made into a circular piazza with restaurants and cafes in it. Sat down ...

Last night was the first time in these 6 weeks that we slept without the windows open so it is cooling gradually. Therefore I didn't hear any church bells overnight for a change. This morning we set off for our very last trip to Lucca – bit sad – it was our fifth time there and I do really like the town. Every time we have been there it has been ...

... Pisa really felt like a University town. I am sure when I come away from my holiday, I may find out that it is not but I got the feeling it was. Pisa was a fleeting visit as I had read great things about Lucca. We departed the train ...

... Puccini concert later that evening. Dave, the culture vulture, said something about sharp sticks and poking eyes out, and decided not to join the opera group to listen to the performance. The concert was awesome and a real highlight with a soprano and a baritone singing works by Puccini, Verdi and Mozart.

After the opera we went for dinner at a restaurant that has been going since 1860. My choice for the evening was macaroni with rabbit and chestnuts. ...

... and bread. And this was a really good restaurant. But best of all, was the company.

Vanda is from Brazil and speaks a little English, Theresa and her mum from Austria and Eve from England. All sitting together trying to understand each other, and find out about each others lives was fantastic. I love that stuff, and they were all incredibly interesting people. Vanda and I got on really well and I think I have a place to go ...
