The Bribe - A Lesson in the World

... after careful examination.

Oh, one last thing. The lady who had been handling all the bribe money was actually coming on to me. She was cute, but I had no desire to take out someone who had just ripped me off. Maybe I should of asked if she was going to pay with my money.

Now for the ride back home in Buenos Aires rush hour traffic. Arriving back the taxi driver refused to charge me for the second round trip. I guess he ...

Days 17-19: BA covered

... upside down, or maybe i was reading it upside down. Either way, i went the long way around to finding most things. Doesn´t help when you mistake Congress for a cathedral. Saw a lot of major sites / symbols, some unintentional: Plaza San Martin, congress, obelisk, plaza de mayo and Kilkenny pub. Booked myself into the Milhouse Hostel for the weekend, and this place has a party reputation. It is regarded as a ýouth´ hostel, so i´m bound to fit in.<br ...

low tech

Well, in the first 12 hours in Iguazu we managed to kill one laptop and two cell phones. This makes communication almost impossible, because most of my account logins apparently use a key code that is mapped differently on spanish keyboards. ¿Who´d have thunk it?

I´ll update more when I have some quality time with a computer, but suffice it to say that Iguazu ...

day 6- sailing on

last minute change of plans. Ity appears that due to drought conditions, there is little to no water at Iguazu Falls. Although this is one of the wonders of the world, and high on my list ofthings to do, it is ultimately a 3 day detour for about 8-10hrs of spectacle. Since I satyed later in BsAs, and have found more that I want to do in NW Argentina, I have made the tough choice to skip the falls ...

Unbelievable - We are home 3 weeks today!!

Well, guess what? I'm still not feeling to good, so it was a day round the hostel for me. Did venture out for a small shop, then slumped in the TV room and watched the Champions League. Had a chicken and pasta dish for dinner which was my first full meal for 3 days!! Felt sick afterwards. Just carried on watching TV and then went to bed. We are going for a walk tomorrow even if I'm bleeding from the eyes!!

Buenos Aires - Day 24-28

... It's turns out his Grandfather was Irish and his arms are covered in Gaelic tattoo's. He use to be a professional volleyball player and now he works for Microsoft, a really interesting chap. We had long chat back on the bus about the Falklands, really interesting to listen to Argentinean's opinion on the subject. When we arrived in Buenos Aires, caught a cab to the hostel Obelesco where I'll be staying for at least the next 4 nights. One of my friends from the Aconcagua climb has ...

... drumming in this old warehouse, full of gringoes, but the drumming was amazing...got in a bit of African style two step dancing. Did a couple of culture vulture days, went to MALBA, Museo de Arte Latinamericano Buenos Aires - a really stark well designed white building. It houses a great collection of south american art which follows similar trends to European art with impressionism, abstractionism and lots of other isms...great shop and book store, but can´t ...

Buenos Aires.... the city that never sleeps...

... was a bottle of Carolina Herrera´s new fragrance and ice cream for Roxy and I. Yesterday (Friday) Roxy and I intended on taking our first Argentine Tango class at Confiteria Ideal, however, when we got there, the class was over and a milonga was taking place instead. A milonga is basically a place where people can come to dance tango socially. It was a lovely venue with a sort an old world, traditional feel to it and very popular with tourists. We didn´t stay to ...

Day 5: Jewish sites, San Telmo feria

... one? We finally find a policeman and when we ask him, where is the synagogue, he does not know. We find this strange, but then a woman comes up to ask the policeman something and she joins in the conversation. Oh, our Spanish! We say "sin-a-gog" and when we say "sin-o-gog", they know immediately and direct us! Just one syllable change! We must be very difficult to understand, but portenos seem to have so much patience with us! We walk ...

A pilgrimage and a soccer game

... everything we had hoped to experience. The most remarkable thing is that as the game progresses, our end explodes into joy and celebration, in contrast to the home team's end, which gets quieter and quieter (there seems to be no noise or action ever from the preferred seats) as Colon finally beats Independiente 2-1, the surprise of the season. And we are there, right in the thick of it. Afterwards we enjoy a wonderful dinner in the restaurant beside our hotel.
