July 29th - Plymouth and Rhode Island

... There was already traffic on the road but not as bad as it would've
been an hour later. Had a look as we crept by in the RV, took a few
photos. Feel ok about not having done more there. As we drove out of
Boston at around 8.15am we passed by the traffic heading into town. 4
or 5 lanes thick, backed up for 15 minutes of solid driving at 55-65
miles per hour. That is horrendous! Not sure how anyone can do that
    everyday.

... maybe more if you like to read all the background and interact with the actors and ask them questions. Throughout the day, all of the actor/guides stayed in character. This town situated right at the top of Cape Cod was amazing. The weather that day was bright sunshine so that when I climbed the 200 odd steps up the Pilgrim Monument - I could actually see Boston which was 42 miles away! The monument stands as the highest point on the Cape and was the first place the Mayflower set down upon after 67 days at sea. Within one year of the 103 odd people arriving only 53 were alive after one year! One baby was born on the ...

... overcast and somewhat cooler than it has been so we headed into the main street to see if we could get ourselves haircuts as we were both looking rather unkempt and shaggy after several weeks on the road. We were fortunate to find both a barber and a hairdresser who could take us at the same time without booking and it was quite an experience for both of us. They say that San Francisco is the gay capital of the US but it's not true - Provincetown is. I'd ...

... in the North and the rest of us in the South.

I wouldn't have minded more time to explore the Cape Cod region and do it more justice. A couple of weeks in the spring or late summer looking round the beaches, taking the ferries out to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, going on a whale watching trip or two, and poking round the little towns such as Hyannis and Woods Hole… sounds like it might be a plan for the ...
