This was a very nice lodge with multiple buildings, nice kitchen facilities and a fun little bar/restaurant for the evening too. I didn't get to check out the famous spa pool, but it was supposed to be quite large and awesome too!

Its an alright place. Beds were very squeaky and difficult to sleep in. The kitchen is a mess and not in order, and there was not enough utensils or plates. Dryer apparently did not dry people's clothes and it was a waste of money. Fat ginger cat was very friendly.

Nice dorm rooms with sturdy beds, although not so easy to get down from the top. Facilities are good, with a kitchen bigger than many found in far larger hostels. Take note Base. There is also a decent bar and restaurant attached.

The kitchen is pretty big but there is no oven.

The 4 bed dorm is quite nice, the beds are comfy and clean and there's a TV with sky movies. It also has an ensuite which is okay but very small and not the cleanest. The shower only has one heat and it's very hot!

$32 a night each. Nice atmosphere & good bar. Friendly resident dog & big fat ginger cat too!

This place seemed like a revolving door with all the Stray, Kiwi and Contiki buses coming in and out daily but the staff were on top of their game to keep everything cleaned and organized. Decent dorm rooms, and there are flashpacker rooms for those wanting some pampering. Good size kitchen with everything you need. And a fun onsite bar and restaurant...what more do you need?

The campervan sites were spread out amongst the rain forest, so it was a lovely setting. The kitchen had just hobs, no ovens, 2 x toasters and about 3 or 4 sinks. There was a lounge area and a few dining tables. There was a meter on the wall, so not sure if you needed to feed it to meter to watch the TV.

The main toilet block for ladies had 2 showers and 3 toilets in it. There was a sign up saying additional toilet blocks could be opened if it was busy enough. The park was full the 2 nights we stayed there. We showered on an evening, in the mornings there were always queues for the 2 showers. On the second morning 2 of the ladies toilets were out of loo paper and had been since 6am. Maybe just an oversight.

The site itself is in the town and over the road from the hot pools.

          Recommended.

Monday 29th/tues 1stThe glaciers at Franz Joseph and Fox are rapidly retreating and, we thought, looked a sad sight especially Fox.
