The kitchen is pretty big but there is no oven.

The 4 bed dorm is quite nice, the beds are comfy and clean and there's a TV with sky movies. It also has an ensuite which is okay but very small and not the cleanest. The shower only has one heat and it's very hot!

$32 a night each. Nice atmosphere & good bar. Friendly resident dog & big fat ginger cat too!

Great bar and restaurant but the room had no heater, the bunk beds had no safety barrier and the tumble dryers were broken and expensive!

This place seemed like a revolving door with all the Stray, Kiwi and Contiki buses coming in and out daily but the staff were on top of their game to keep everything cleaned and organized. Decent dorm rooms, and there are flashpacker rooms for those wanting some pampering. Good size kitchen with everything you need. And a fun onsite bar and restaurant...what more do you need?

Lush rainforest setting...ran out of loo paper

      Reviewed Sep 26, 2012
by (46 reviews) Leeds , United Kingdom Flag of United Kingdom

The campervan sites were spread out amongst the rain forest, so it was a lovely setting. The kitchen had just hobs, no ovens, 2 x toasters and about 3 or 4 sinks. There was a lounge area and a few dining tables. There was a meter on the wall, so not sure if you needed to feed it to meter to watch the TV.

The main toilet block for ladies had 2 showers and 3 toilets in it. There was a sign up saying additional toilet blocks could be opened if it was busy enough. The park was full the 2 nights we stayed there. We showered on an evening, in the mornings there were always queues for the 2 showers. On the second morning 2 of the ladies toilets were out of loo paper and had been since 6am. Maybe just an oversight.

The site itself is in the town and over the road from the hot pools.

      Recommended.

Waking up to news of a 3-0 home win for Leeds against Huddersfield put a spring in my step as we prepared to leave our snug room in Westport for the journey to Franz Josef. It wasn't such an early start, but we did have a fairly big journey ahead of us down the coast of the Tasman Sea. Along the way we once again stopped to take in a couple of …

On Sunday morning we left Westport to head towards Franz Josef Glacier but had a few stops and activities on the way. I had chosen to do the bone carving and make my own personalised Maori necklace. I've seen them in the shops and could never decide which I liked best and always found them expensive for what they were. But when I found out we had …

Sunday evening, packing and getting ready to go Monday morning - wet and drizzly as we left. Packed well and well below limit. Val saw it a a lost opportunity and was tempted to go back home to pack more! The long flight through London, Hong Kong and on to Perth went smoothly and Val was surprised at how good she felt arriving in at 23:00 local …

With a meeting arranged at our next hotel with a glacier guide we cracked on in the morning wanting to see a few places enroute. The route was a circular one around Lake Kaniere. We stopped at the lake where the reflection of the sky and mountains was perfectly formed on the water. It was a magical sight. We continued our drive around to Dorothy …
