The kitchen is pretty big but there is no oven.

The 4 bed dorm is quite nice, the beds are comfy and clean and there's a TV with sky movies. It also has an ensuite which is okay but very small and not the cleanest. The shower only has one heat and it's very hot!

$32 a night each. Nice atmosphere & good bar. Friendly resident dog & big fat ginger cat too!

Great bar and restaurant but the room had no heater, the bunk beds had no safety barrier and the tumble dryers were broken and expensive!

    Well run backpackers

This place seemed like a revolving door with all the Stray, Kiwi and Contiki buses coming in and out daily but the staff were on top of their game to keep everything cleaned and organized. Decent dorm rooms, and there are flashpacker rooms for those wanting some pampering. Good size kitchen with everything you need. And a fun onsite bar and restaurant...what more do you need?

Lush rainforest setting...ran out of loo paper

    Reviewed Sep 26, 2012
by (46 reviews) Leeds , United Kingdom Flag of United Kingdom

The campervan sites were spread out amongst the rain forest, so it was a lovely setting. The kitchen had just hobs, no ovens, 2 x toasters and about 3 or 4 sinks. There was a lounge area and a few dining tables. There was a meter on the wall, so not sure if you needed to feed it to meter to watch the TV.

The main toilet block for ladies had 2 showers and 3 toilets in it. There was a sign up saying additional toilet blocks could be opened if it was busy enough. The park was full the 2 nights we stayed there. We showered on an evening, in the mornings there were always queues for the 2 showers. On the second morning 2 of the ladies toilets were out of loo paper and had been since 6am. Maybe just an oversight.

The site itself is in the town and over the road from the hot pools.

    Recommended.

Today we do one of the things we've been wanting to do since arriving here; to climb a glacier! With Ice Explorer we are helicoptered up onto the Franz Josef glacier, which in itself provides spectacular views as we head from ground level up onto the ice. On the glacier itself we are in awe of where we are, and after putting on our ice-spikes for …

Morning rudely awakens our hangovers, and it's a sorry sight at breakfast as many faces blankly stare at their plates of pancakes and bacon, unable to coordinate a proper assault. I wolf down what I can, and we then hit the road for another incredible journey South, really understanding why New Zealand is regarded as one of the most beautiful …

I had chosen to do the bone carving and make my own personalised Maori necklace. I've seen them in the shops and could never decide which I liked best and always found them expensive for what they were. But when I found out we had …
