Puerto Iguazu, Province of Misiones, Litoral, Argentina
We were relieved to arrive in Puerto Iguazu (just across the Argentina border) after such a long coach journey from Rio. The border crossing was relatively easy and we were very impressed with our private ensuite room at the hostel with hammocks hanging outside. The weather was beautiful and we headed into the town for a very late lunch. No one here speaks much English so with the aid of our Spanish phrase book we successfully ordered pizzas and coke from the only restaurant that appeared to ...

Arriving in Foz de Iguacu, Brasil
Mary and I arrived in Foz de Iguacu around noon on May 31, a Sunday, after an uneventful and comfortable 17-hour bus journey from Sao Paolo. We hopped on a cheap local bus, where we had to pass through the devil turnstiles with our large backpacks, which was not easy, into town. We checked into the El Shaddai guesthouse (R$40), which was a nice, clean and cheap place, albeit wit...
We were supposed to take the same flight off of SF, but she got a booked flight and I didn't, so it took me exactly 3 days to get reunited with Marie.
First order of the day, to figure out how to get to the Brazilian side. Since I am a Filipino citizen, I wasn't required to get a visa. Marie's a US Citizen, and she needed one.
So, after brainstorming on different ingenious ways to get across the border without paying the hefty 150 dollar bill. We decided to visit the Brazilian e...
We boarded the bus to Iguazu at 4 pm in Salta an epic 23 hour bus ride ahead of us! It is funny to think that at the beginning of the trip a 16 hour flight seemed epic, yet now we consider a journey of that length normal. Funny how your brain adjusts to scale so quickly. However, I wasn´t looking forward to 23 hours on a bus. As it turned out the bus was pretty comfortable and both of us slept fairly well. I kept George happy by feeding her empanadas at regular intervals. Seemed to work ok. W...

Iguazu Falls, Argentina edgarwouldgoI wasn´t looking forward to a bus journey that would last almost 24 hours but it turned out to be ok. Usually when we get on an overnight bus it´s at about 10pm and I´m wide awake from having to get to the right place and guarding my bag at the bus station. However, this time, because we got on earlier we were able to relax into the journey and get some good sleep. We arrived in Puerto Iguazu at about lunchtime the next day and were pleased to find the place lovely and warm and in glorious su...

After surviving the 18 hour luxury bus ride, we finally arrived in Puerto Iguazu – the town closest to the falls on the Argentinian side. We checked into our beautiful hostel (called Hosel Puerto Canoas) and went and sat outside our room for a bit, looking at the really cute hummingbirds hovering around the flowers and feeders in the colourful wildlife garden. We then set off to take a look around the town. We walked first of all to the Tres Frontieras which is the point where Argentin...

... sprayed from head to toe (even one with deet - sorry mummy!) a bug band, and an essential oil that´s supposed to ward them off, I mean my goodness!
Regardless of the mosquito over population this smaller water fall was amazing, we could even hike to the bottom of it and Evan stripped down and jumped in! (Evan would like to emphasize how much he LOVED this waterfall)
We followed that adventure with a ride on the train to "the devil ...
... you´re able to stand over it with 260 degrees of the giant waterfall thundering down around you. It was the highlight of the whole Iguacu experience, and we can see why Lady Eleanor Roosevelt reportedly exclaimed "Poor Niagara!" upon seeing the monster. We haven`t seen Niagara, but it definitely gets our vote for one of the 7 natural wonders!
Next stop Northern Argentina, with another 22 hour bus ride - the last for a while! Hope you`re all well.
Love Renee and Eugene
... decided she was AWESOME and started up on a photo shoot of herself.
The following day - clearly not as bright and sparky as the night before!!! We were delving in to our rehydration sachets like women possessed, along with anti nausia tablets, and codeine in the vain attempt to dull the hangover. Nothing was working. We had a man down that day, Kaz spent the day in bed, unable to move.
Loz and I managed to get out and about ...
Our last stop in Brazil, the spectacular Iguacu Falls.
As always, nothing like a 26 hour bus to get you in the mood for sightseeing, but hey, the sharks who run airlines aren't exactly big on cheap tickets it seems... Luckily this one was ok, except for a monster 4 hour traffic jam in Sao Paolo - thie biggest city in the southern hemisphere! Due to a rather heavy week of late nights and jolling in Rio, we were able to sleep ...
