For dinner four of us ate at the home of a Javanese family where English was barely spoken. We were saved by one of our fellow travelers who carried the evening. Thank you Kerry for
making this into an interesting and enjoyable experience. The home dinners are one of our least favorite OAT activities as it can be difficult because of language and because we don't really think the families are "typical".

We kept walking around the city, trying to find what made it special. We found a big fair right in front of the kraton (something like the imperial city), so the atmosphere was festive and it was quite busy. But except for this, there was not much more going on in the city. ...
... back on track! Spent the morning exploring the town and quite a delightful place it is too. The main drag is Jl Malioboro and full of souvenir shops/stalls and cafes/street food stalls. At its far end is the Kraton (ancient walled city), with Taman Sari (Water Castle) close by - a collection of palaces & pools used by the Sultan and his entourage. Managed to get into an argument with the entry ticket staff ...
