Carnaval detox & last night in Rio

A travel blog entry by charlotte.cooke on Mar 08, 2014

After the madness of carnaval, Nadja and I were desperate to escape the city for some much needed R&R and detoxing. So we headed to Arraial Do Cabo, about 3 hours from Rio, to a small homely hostel, which is the 'Rehab' to the crazy party hostel (Books Hostel) that we had spent a lot of time in in Rio. No photos I'm afraid as we were frankly quite boring for these days, but some details below... We only spent 3 nights there but it was the ...

... Devil's Throat on the Argentinian side of the falls was the most impressive part. The Devil's Throat is the heaviest section of the waterfall, and at the Argentinian lookout, on top of the waterfall, you are able to watch as unbelievable amounts of water pass over the cliff-edge. Definitely worth the expensive entrance fee!

... whilst we were in Brazil (we are now in Argentina and still craving the stuff. Sad lives).

On the fourth day here after a week with Maudie and Pete we said our fairwells and headed off to our next destination. It had been an awesome first week in Brazil and an awesome time with them both. We could very easily have stayed longer, but we decided to keep moving to go see what else Brazil had to ...

Once we'd finally got to Rio we had to figure out how to get to the hostel..... we did wot we have by now become accustomed to which was dive in a cab, fortunately prearranging the fee. We knew it was a fair way to Copacabana but wot we hadn't realised was our cab driver didn't have a clue whereabouts in the 4km of Copacabana it was. In fact we had more idea, having got a map. However, he wasn't really interested in any help. He in fact seemed to find it amusing to drive past the end of ...

Dara - What a crazy town! I'll say off the bat that we were a little nervous about going to Rio (and by 'we' I mostly just mean 'me') It turned out to be quite the adventure. Not in a bad way... everything we tried to plan just didn't work out in some way or another but instead we got to go on a lot of neat little side adventures...I will definitely remember our time in Rio. In the morning, we went on a tour ...
