... but the biggest village Abraão is tiny - 2 sandy streets running parallel to the coast with several lanes leading uphill to the jungle off these. There's no motorised transport on the island, everything is transported by bicycle or barrow, enhancing the super laid back feel to the place. We made our way across to Ilha Grande, about 3 hrs drive and an hour boat ride from Rio. A stunning island where the jungle comes right down to the white sand beaches! We did a few hikes, got soaked in torrential rain/thunderstorms both times but thoroughly enjoyed the walks regardless. ... there was a much busier vibe and we were all dancing away with the locals. Kate and the girls ended up dancing with what appeared to be 15 year old local boys who were teaching us how to Samba dance! We headed to a few bars after and continued playing a dare game that had been going on throughout the evening. One of the americans got dared to streak into the sea but he obviously offended a local who went mad at him trying to launch wooden chairs at him until he ...

... asked me at one point. Through the waiter she tells me her granddaughter can speak four different languages. 'Cool' I say missing the point and her perplexedness at the inadequacy of this gringo that sits before her... I assume. 'Italian, English, Portugueze and French...' The other conversation at the table is between Bruno, the waiters 'blood brother' as he put it and Bruno's girlfriend. She had braces, he had a baseball cap, a cute good looking young couple with love ...
