Encouraged To Hike To Paradise... Twice! (Day 33)

2:15 am rolled around and it felt like I had just gone to sleep. Granted, I had only gone to bed about 4 hours before. Why would we wake ourselves up at this time when most people would either be just coming home from the bar or be dreaming of prancing around in Sugarland** (a Simpsons reference for those who didn't know) while tucked into their race car bed? To watch the sunrise from a tiny lookout high above the clouds of Ilha Grande of course! We ...

Waking up and seeing the rain outside was some what depressing... But we set of to Lopes Mendez beach. The walk was meant to be only 2hours but with many stops at the beautiful beaches along the way and the steep climb up and down the mountains on the island it was a little longer. We managed to stay dry and looking back I'm greatfull for the clouds as the walk acted like a sauna with sweat dripping off my face :( The final beach was incredible with someone comparing ...

Arrived in Ilha Grande looking like lobsters as I forgot my rucksack lock code - 45 minute boat ride with no suntan lotion, oops. Stayed at a hostel right at the top of the main strip, a bit set back from everything but nice enough. Ilha Grande is a paradise island for sure - beach, jungle and the sea. As mentioned, now we're travel ******* we're doing lots of unusual things like walking which led us to attempt ...

... near the Lopes Mendes beach and after a short walk we arrived. The beach was huge! Most of the people were concentrated in one small section, where the trail to the smaller beach started, so we wandered up towards a less crowded area. We spent the day there, and managed to build a BBQ pit in the sand to cook our sausages in. It started to get a bit chilly as the afternoon passed, and we didn't want to miss the last boats back to Abraao, so we headed back ...

mottos: you'll never do anything great without being criticized. expect nothing. appreciate everything. Written on the 15/4/14 on the ferry leaving the Island of Ilha Grande. Same day we got on a bus to Sau Paulo. Ilha Grande. If you ever get the chance to go there go. Do the things i never did and stay longer than us. There is one of the best beaches in the world, Lopes Mendes, boat trips to the blue lagoon and great hiking to different beaches. We did none of this and it rained ...
