2:15 am rolled around and it felt like I had just gone to sleep. Granted, I had only gone to bed about 4 hours before. Why would we wake ourselves up at this time when most people would either be just coming home from the bar or be dreaming of prancing around in Sugarland** (a Simpsons reference for those who didn't know) while tucked into their race car bed? To watch the sunrise from a tiny lookout high above the clouds of Ilha Grande of course! We ...

Waking up and seeing the rain outside was some what depressing... But we set of to Lopes Mendez beach. The walk was meant to be only 2hours but with many stops at the beautiful beaches along the way and the steep climb up and down the mountains on the island it was a little longer. We managed to stay dry and looking back I'm greatfull for the clouds as the walk acted like a sauna with sweat dripping off my face :( The final beach was incredible with someone comparing ...

Arrived in Ilha Grande looking like lobsters as I forgot my rucksack lock code - 45 minute boat ride with no suntan lotion, oops. Stayed at a hostel right at the top of the main strip, a bit set back from everything but nice enough. Ilha Grande is a paradise island for sure - beach, jungle and the sea. As mentioned, now we're travel ******* we're doing lots of unusual things like walking which led us to attempt ...

      Boat Trip

... in 1994. There are now 9,000 inhabitants. The first beach we stopped at was unimpressive, especially in comparison to the 9 out of silicon beach we hit a few days ago. We stayed for about half an hour before progressing to another beach a brief walk away on the other side of a rocky penninsula. Thus beach was even worse, apparently the high tides are particularly bad. We didn't even stay here but jumped back on the boat to the blue lagoon. Here we moored in a small area ...

      Boat cruise around Ilha Grande

... a few different kinda of fish. Lots if yellow and black striped and silver and black striped but my fav was a catfish type fish that had brightly coloured wings. Also saw an orange starfish hiding in some rocks. Second stop was smaller but better for me. I got to see some different fish as well as more of the brightly coloured catfish. They had a very bright blue tip to their wings ...
