Soporific Sopot

... around before hauling out and acting as if they are not at all cold. Some Poles sunbathe as it will not be long before the weather is too cold to sit outside in your swimsuit.

After walking off the pier, we go for a walk on the beach. The beach extends for miles in either direction. I would imagine it might be possible to walk to Gdansk down the beach and Gdynia up the beach. People stop and ...

Deliciously Decadent Drink

... milk or dark, white chocolate, and on and on. Oh the menu made one drool. My husband got a classic. I went for the white chocolate with raspberries. Deliciously decadent. How do these people manage to go to work each day? Just sit in the café and have one delightful flavor of chocolate after another. Swiss Miss has been relegated to the back pantry, possibly forever.

Internationally Invisible

... br>
These are small examples. These things happen to us all the time. We aren’t bad looking people, we aren’t dressed shabbily, we don’t sit in the corner in the dark, and yet we can be ignored in the best to the worst of places that we visit, and in whatever country we visit. Has service become so bad that service staff and wait people and ...

Gdansk Revisited

... for once, I was allowed to take photos. Took a lot of photos.

Things close up in a hurry so that was the last museum we were able to visit. Next was the shopping part of the tour. Mary’s street, or St. Mary’s street, wasn’t sure which, is behind St. Mary’s church and has a ton of amber shops. I found a cute little necklace with a cat pendant where the ...

Still Chilling Out in Gdansk

... with a divided road, tram tracks down the middle, a pedestrian tunnel going somewhere, an elevated bridge over part of the road and no apparent stop for the Von Hundret and Six. I did try to listen but all I got was Von Hundret and Six!!! He was very nice about it though and was genuinely trying to help. As I was walking away I heard him say again, "Von hundret and six bus." I just don't think the word "where" could cross that linguistical divide. I ...

Day 9 - Gdansk, Poland (Chanting football fans)

Took the bus 14 miles from Gdynia, where the ship was docked, to Gdansk. Lots of varied and attractive buildings along the river. Had 5 hours - more than enough! Gdansk is obviously a popular holiday spot for Poles, as there were lots of them, including a ship full of chanting football fans that kept ...

Gdansk, Poland

... entrances to the city long ago and marks the beginning of a restored area of buildings and shops. It would have been a very nice place to walk around, shop, look at buildings and get a bite to eat except that it is all outdoors and it was pouring rain. Our guide had a very irritating voice and style of speaking. As soon as we got off the bus we, along with half the bus, ditched her and just walked around
on our own. We found a ...

Glory of Gdansk

... we enjoyed a nice cold beer - very talented! We also saw a classic car rally which formed a procession down the main street, all different nationalities showing off their pride & joy - is good when you stumble across something different or an event happening like this that you weren't expecting, a nice surprise! Heading to the capital, Warsaw, next to see what it has in store for us! Hope all is well back in England, love to you all! Claire & Paul xxx

Gdansk --whooops, bad weather

I was so disappointed we missed a port call in Gdansk Poland, but the weather was terrible and winds were too high for the ship to dock safely. Poland is high on our list of places to visit before we leave Europe. We are thinking of flying to Bratislava on a cheap 15 Euro flight via SkyEurope or EasyJet, and then visiting Poland after wandering around Bratislava because it is the last of the four new national capitals we want to see. I think Latvia & Lithuania would be ...

Gdansk is a pretty city

... relaxing. Took a night bus to Gdansk, Poland. Its a really pretty city on the northern coast of Poland. There isn't much to really see here, its just a really pretty city with beautiful streets and cool old buildings. So thats all I did, hang out and walk around. I went out with two guys from the hostel to a neighboring town ...
