Had a private triple bedroom and bathroom for 2 nights. Location - excellent. Very close to train station, across road from internet cafe. (Though free wifi (but not computers) provided.) Lovely spacious room which was bright and prettily decorated with stencils on the wall. Wardrobe, hangers, 1 double, bedside table either side of it, 1 single, 1 chair each.) Beds extremely comfortable, soft downy pillows. Information guides etc. upstairs on table, same floor as reception (not open at night). Shower was lovely.
No kitchen but vending machines (non-operatable at night to reduce noise :) ). Tried a hot choc. - perfect. Owner very genuinely friendly and helpful. Apart from the one downfall of not having a kitchen, which I have since realised from my trip, isn't standard for hostels in Europe, I literally couldn't fault it. Excellent and completely recommendable.

Perustasoa oleva hostellitason majapaikka, 3 eurolla saat oman wc:n ja suihkun. Siisti ja rauhallinen. Mukava omistajaperhe.

I'm on the way home now. All the adventures are over. After the last scary one that’s probably a very good thing. This morning I left Cortina my home of a week to drive the two hours to Venice to drop off the car and catch a train via Verona to Innsbruck, Austria.

As it is my last mention of Cortina, I should correct the observation my blog made a week ago when I said Cortina was smaller and lacked the ...

... and strudel of course before continuing on to our intended destination at Innsbruck which was the site for the winter Olympics in the seventies as well as hosting multiple world and youth championships for winter sports. The ride from Fussen to Innsbruck was almost entirely through the Austrian Alpine region and the roads and scenery were again spectacular with even a four km journey through a mountain tunnel included. It has been clear to us that ...

    Welcome to Austria

We left Italy on Friday and travelled across the Brenner Pass in to Austria. Leutasch is just north of Innsbruck and not far from the German border. Leutasch is beautiful. It is a valley at about 1000 metres altitude with pretty little villages dotted between meadows. Towering ...

Looked around the quaint town of Leinz, had a gellato, walk and toilet stop, looked at the ruins of the Berg Reinsveld castle.

Moved on into Italy and the Dolomite mountain region and into the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo, the Olympic skiing resort, had lunch in a lovely back street cafe, coffee, panini and rum, wunderba. Purchased a top at the market just as it was closing only ...

... to also hand over the passports. We could tell they were German. "No passport? Ok you are under arrest, follow me'. No chance. No other people really were asked, including jen and I. That night, after months of fantasising about this moment we headed out for dinner after eating nothing but a focaccia and half a muffin. PORK KNUCLE SAUERKRAUT AND MASHED POTATO followed by a stein of weissbier. Mmmmm vegetables. Mmmm weissbier. Mmmm germany tastes ...
