B.P. 11 Maupiti Society Islands, French Polynesia, 689-70-56-09
Needing a break from a break, I decided to travel to Maupiti for a spell. The Maupiti Express travels to and from the island a few days a week, and takes about two hours each way, depending on the weather. My travel companion for the day was a beautiful french girl named Sophie whom I had met earlier in the week while sunseting at the hotel bora bora. She has been working on the island selling pearls for about five years, and seems to be waiting for the courage to escape back to france to sta...
Maupiti, French Polynesia cjs150 We have arrived in Tahiti the day before we left New Zealand. Think about that one. We are seeing some sun and we are finally back into our shorts and singlets. While it rained at the end of the day at least it was warm.
A little History of Tahiti and why the local people speak French. I have found this very interesting and am sharing it with you.
While Tahiti is ...
... there before they set sail for 6 months as a group. Very interesting how they can keep dancing while the ship is rocking and rolling. We saw how the performers can change clothes completely in about 30 seconds. You definitely have to be flexible.
By now we feel like we’re in "Groundhog Day". Every day blends into the next and we’re totally lost as to time and ...
Shipboard Life
We're now at 170 degrees longitude and headed toward the International Date Line, where we lose a day. At a question and answer session with the captain, one lady wanted to know if we would be moving from daylight to night. The shocked captain told her nicely that it would still be daylight and we only change the date. Only a few snickers! It is confusing, especially since we’ve ...
Once again I stayed on the ship for IPM, but today was rainy and humid. I planned to go to the pool, but the weather caused me to rethink that plan quickly.
I enjoyed working on some of my photos and creating more slideshows. You may wonder why I don't post more photos, why am I posting mostly just video slideshows?
As a photographer I don't wish to allow ...
... that sit on the outer reef, and the multicolored lagoon. The trademark Mt Otemanu towers over the island and supposedly has never been climbed.
Today was a tender day and we decided not to chance missing out on transportation or looking around the island , so we skipped breakfast (which we certainly can afford to do) and headed in by 8 am. After our now expected native welcome we ...
We over-nighted in Bora Bora, many crew members went ashore to enjoy a night on the beach or a stay in one of the grass hut hotel accommodations.
I went to bed and slept in until about 11:15AM. I needed the rest.
I had IPM again today and so after eating lunch I headed to the crew training room to take care of some lessons I needed to complete and then headed ...
Sandy beaches, grass huts on stilts overlooking green and blue tropical waters...what's not to love here in French Polynesia.
I have uploaded a video slide show of the sights of the day. To view the video in a larger size, click on the small video icon in the blog post until it opens up in a larger window.
I hope you enjoy it!

After staying on the ship most of yesterday, I anxiously went ashore today in search of sights and sounds of Moorea.
Straight off of the ship's tender to shore, a local Polynesian group danced and played instruments for us. There was a local market with artists' stalls directly next to the dancers with many different and unique types of crafts to pick from. The exchange rate wasn't as good ...
Another lovely sea day from Nuku Hiva to Papeete, Tahiti. Sun and calm waters abound here thus far!
Today I had IPM, In Port Manning, and stayed on the ship for most of the day. At 5PM my friend in the library returned to work which freed me up to get off the ship.
I made the most of my 60 minutes and ...
