... town along the bike/walking trail that runs next to the beach.
As we walk along, we pass some magnificent old houses. Sopot was once and might still be a lovely seaside resort for Poles with money. Some of the other old houses have turned into museums and bed and breakfast places. We pass a "lody" place. We know that this means ice cream so get a soft serve cone. Hubby has a cappuccino as he ...
... came very thick, almost as thick as chocolate pudding. I tasted hers and it was like chocolate pudding! As the drink cooled, it got thicker and thicker. They bring a spoon along with it so that you can finish it to the bottom of the glass. Yum!
Yesterday we are walking up the square in Sopot, Poland and I notice people sitting in a café with cups of what looks like ...
... talk to each other. A customer enters after me, another customer enters. Both are scooped up by clerks and are taken to the section of jewelry in which they express an interest. I am ignored. I go to another store where it only takes 10 minutes standing by a clerk to get noticed and buy my jewelry.
A brewery where hubby likes to sample the micro brews made ...
Back to Gdansk today to see if we can get into some of the museums that we missed yesterday because everything is closing early these days. Tourist season officially must be over but there are still plenty of tourists around the area. We are now almost experts on moving about on the trams so got to the main tourist street quite quickly. The amber museum was still not open. It is housed in ...

Since I accidentally stumbled upon where WWI started in Sarajevo I couldn't leave Gdansk without standing where WWII began. I'll be honest, I accidentally stumbled upon the fact that WWII started in Gdansk, too. Flipping through some brochure about the touristical delights of Gdansk opened my eyes to the fact that this city was just as important to WWII as it was to ending Communism. Who knew!!?? Well, my dad did obviously so these pics of ...
... we checked into the hotel, I had about an hour before we met for dinner, so I went for a run along the edge of the Gdansk shipyards. It was pretty old and dilapidated. In fact, it looked really run down, but we will get a look at it later this weekend before we head back to Warsaw.
Went to dinner again with the entire Fulbright group at a nice place in the old town part of Gdansk. This town has more character ...
... that treaty with us (that is ******* off Russia) seems like their own way of showing their stubbornness to Russia. Their country has been repeatedly destroyed by war because they are surrounded by Russia, Germany, and Austria. Gdansk (called Danzig by the Germans) and Warsaw suffered the
heaviest bombing during WWII and you can still see the burned out buildings that were never torn down or replaced after all these years ...
Well we had a bit of a nightmare here deciding on a campsite, as the one we had planned to stay at just seemed a little too far from the centre, so we looked on our map & noticed more central ones! Off to the centre we headed - what a nightmare for traffic, and then could we find any of these campsites, could we heck!! In the end we decided to stay at a campsite in Sopot, just outside Gdansk with a train station nearby as we didn't fancy taking the bike ...
Gdansk, Baltic Coast, Poland no1pablo... man, has a costume and mask of the scream character just racking in the money. You would not believe how many young women just have to get their picture with this guy! Maybe, when I get to Transylvania, I can give this a whack. Sunday morning, I went with Marta to the old town where she set up to do some singing and playing. While she was playing, I noticed two men working together, one standing off while the ...
Gdansk, Poland skip2938... there, so we walked into an open door peering around to see if this was the place or not and eventually we poke our heads into what looks like a dining room and someone finally asks us who we are. Yes, we had a reservation and we managed to get our rooms just fine after paying the 120 Shlotz total left to pay. A room of six currently only occupied by one other girl, meaning we get bottom bunks. It's been an interestingly lucky day. 12 ...
