To Harlingen as on the Dutch coast and close to Afsluitdijk where we planned to cross the following day. Even though a busy fishing village and ferry terminal, it still retained its old world charm and character. The "Bruine Vloot" is a traditional sailing fleet comprised of Klippers, Tjalks and Aken....... all double dutch to me, but absolutely fascinating.

... village of Workum to visit the art museum of a famous local artist Jopie Huisman. He was a self taught painter who liked to collect old things and paint them. Fantastic work. Then ice cream and a cuppa at the cafe:) We drove on to Lelystad to see the replica of the ship Batavia from the VOC (Dutch East India company). They have also started to build another tall ship there. Then the rain started to come down so off home we went. A great day ...

... restaurant that advertised that they had mussels. I had been craving them since I had seen them in Giethoorn. The mussels came in a big pot with the lid on it with three different sauces, a salad and fries. Now that's what I am talking about! Brian, had a large hamburger with a healthy portion of Dutch fries and mayonnaise. ;-)

... which was very good. Almost like a pizza with ham, cheese, mushrooms and arugula. In fact, it was kind of windy and we had to cover the pannenkoeken so that the arugula wouldn't fly off. You can imagine how that got Brian excited envisioning the kiting possibilities...
