We’re experienced world travelers now. What do we need a map for?
Setting off, upon arrival at the first junction there was a looming ‘no bicycles’ sign on the entrance to the highway. And none of the other directional signs showing names of towns matched anything on our maps. Which way would ...

Chios, Greece jgrivetti... and behind me. If you don't know Greek it sounds (to my mind) like a hilarious soap opera. Or was it a mental institution?
Later, at my pension the cleaning lady--a Swiss ex-pat--interpreted it for me. Somewhat. According to her a man was out drinking the night before and may have left his wallet there. His bleat is on the order of, "But it was my money!" I don't know ...

So all this to within a half hour of the boat departure. And I still had to walk to the customs station on the warf. Nervously, it looked farther than it was.
And even then, with about 300 yards to go a fellow stopped to offer me a ride.
As we pulled up to the customs house he said he worked there. I asked him ...
... but comfy enough and was absolutely packed by the time we left Izmir. Even so, the steward came round with little bottles of water for everyone and then came back again and squirted our hands with some refreshing hand cream. London Transport could learn a thing or two from these Turks. We arrived in Cesme at about 21.15 and, after a quick pizza, piled into the cosy cabin of Tiercel and were rapidly asleep. We have decided to spend a little bit of time here doing some maintenance ...
Cesme, Turkey chickensafloat... professors who work in your backyard gives you higher chances of collaborative research and opportunities to be involved in societies etc. I try for at least one such conference a year... BUT.. my favourite of all would be the ****** conferences in EXOTIC places. Meeting the minimum target research output at work gave me the benefit of AU$5,000 for one international conference per year. Since I gave up my NATIONAL conference allowance of AU$2,500 ...
