... walking the 1.3km stretch of the wall, we ended up back in Alexanderplatz and went to a miniature world/railway called Loxx that Glenn had seen in the book that came with our Berlin visitor card. It was chilling to walk down the same road political prisoners had taken, many to their deaths, and to pass through the heavy iron gates into the center of the camp. The gates read "work liberates" in german. It was emotionally exhausting and by the end JD and I were walking the mile back to the station in a type of coma. On the grounds of the University was where one of the book burnings took place under Hitler’s rule. Today there is an underground memorial dedicated toward the book burning that took place here.
