Touchdown!

... we board the “Hop-On Hop-Off” bus – a convertible double-decker which we have a full-day pass to use. I like these bus trips (did I mention air conditioning?.....there’s 30+ degree heat with Congo-like humidity here). It’s an inexpensive way to get the lay-of-the-land. We did one route for almost 2 hours…..found a restaurant with a “Menu of the Day” bill-a-fare posted on a board outside ...

... meexed in Germany, and produced heeah in Barcelona. Eet can't get much bettah." What a salesman. I want it.

It was not long before we made it to the beach. We kept laughing at how obvious it was to tell who was from Barcelona and who was a tourist. Since these beaches are topless, you could glance around at the out-of-towners peering ever so discreetly at the ill-clothed women. And you can put me right on that list! As ...

What's truly amazing is how completely modernistic it is. We're talking about a family having this made in early 1900's. It would appear daring even by today's standards.....such ...

Barcelona...and other news from Montpellier

... appreciated until you experience it for yourself. My respects to anyone who does it. It is humbling, exasperating, exhausting and enlightening. I am discovering that I am here to learn many things, beyond French. This will most likely be the greatest lesson in patience and endurance that I have ever had. Not surprising at all that once again, a journey outside my own country and comfort-zone, has brought me so much more than what I expected and hoped for when I ...

Barcelona Bound

... my photography. Be aware, you will be solicited for change by very aggressive ladies with gold teeth. Find a seat that provides a good view of the church to contemplate it's magnificence. We stopped into a random place on La Rambla for tapas and sangria to eat until we were satisfied. It was the best sangria I've ever tasted. The tapas were everything I'd hoped for and more. We went to the same restaurant for ...

Enjoying Barcelona

... sangria and on the way home we stopped for some local bohemian street performances as well Overall I though it was a great afternoon - and the weather couldn't have been better (which seems like the case most of the time in Barcelona). La Sagrada Familia was really an amazing sight to see- although it is already over 80 years in the making and they don't think it will be completed until around 2040! It is the most unique and probably my favorite church we have seen in Europe. Once we ...

... not only is the big city what I´m used to but I thought it would also be easier to find work and have things to do and see. My ideas for work were to try and find a job bartending or maybe teaching English, even though I had no real experience with either. After traveling through Spain in the early parts of my travels in May, I found that I did not enjoy Madrid all that much but did enjoy Barcelona as a city and it´s location close to the sea and the rest of Europe. So it ...

Hola from Barcelona

... no English. Apparently the guy who knew we were coming hadn't told the people in reception and they weren't prepared for 37 English speakers and it took us about 45 mins and several phones calls to head office to sort everything out. Day 7 - Barcelona Last night was so cold. I thought Dad's sleeping bag was one of those down to zero ones - if so - it didn't work. I also had a liner made out of the same material as thermals and then I put my 2 jackets on top of my sleeping ...

Barcelona-2003

... the crowd is a fickle group and if he is not taking enough risks or does not make a clean kill at the end he will be harassed out of the arena. The kill at the end is the most important part of the entire ceremony and requires one direct stroke down into the aorta. This is a near religious ceremony and is important to its supporters. I can't see it ending anytime in the near future, with or without tourists going. Would I go again?? No. Visiting ...
