Friday morning we reluctantly left beautiful San Francisco in search of the redwoods. After getting through the city traffic and dealing with inept restaurant employees we were on the coast road. First was wine country and hippy towns. We stopped at a makeshift head shop along the way but just couldn't bring ourselves to buy tie dyed anything. We made it out with a "coexist" bumper sticker and were back on the road. Wine country turned to mountains, redwoods, ...

... that even one bottle of water can upset the balance of the pack. I learned that spinning around to see what my kids are talking about is not a good idea...and I learned that even at 15 pounds, it is very heavy. I need to try to keep my final weight under 25 pounds. Walking on such rugged terrain was also insightful, I need to be very aware of my footing. ... a long, but very enjoyable trip. Saw so much and was amazed at seeing all the wild animals we saw on our trip. Here is a list of that animals that we know for sure we saw: Cheeta, crocodile, crowned crane, dik-dik, duiker, eland, fish eagle, gerenuk, grant’s gazelle, great white pelican, grey heron, ground hornbill, hartebeest, hippo, hyena, impala, jackal, lilac-breasted roller, ibex, spectacular starling, marabou stork, masai giraffe, rothchild’s (reticulated) ...

Heat relief--went to Oregon where it was only 98!

... moved in the few things I need till I leave. Eventually heard a sound and there was Don; he had hurt his back and was hobbling around in pain. Anita came home shortly- She had a flat tire and ended up having to buy a new tire. It had a bolt through it. Not too happy. We talked and fixed supper-Pork chops, potatoes, fresh green beans and a few other things - a good meal. I fixed my fruit bowl to take tomorrow and then we watched a show on TV. I had talked to Phil briefly ...
