After picking up our rental car in Cape Town, we easily made it to the Garden Route along the Indian Ocean and spent the night in Mossel Bay. The guest house was beautiful and Petra, the owner was a joy. We had a nice dinner in town and breakfast the next day was wonderful with great food and a fabulous view of the bay. ... when it was really, really hot, we went down under a motorway bridge to the beach and waded the mouth of the river. There were a group of black oystercatchers on the shoreline beside the river mouth. We took off our boots and walked all along the waterline barefoot. There were huge waves which occasionally rushed up the steeply sloping shore and gave us a soaking. We had to watch out for stranded jellyfish, and we found some strange molluscs with a huge flappy flat ...

... pad and hug her but there was no way I was getting in there!! After several people had hugged the ostrich the guide picked one poor guy to kiss the ostrich? She then placed some ostrich feed (a small pellet) into his mouth and we all watched in horror as the ostrich pecked the food from his mouth… I don’t think this qualifies as a kiss but I am sure the bloke has had worse!!
