... We rubbed the meat with mineral powder which is good for their joints, then packed the meat in plastic crates. That was the easy bit. What followed was emptying the walk in fridge of all meat to clean it. We're talking 3 tons of meat here. Literally. While carrying out legs and ribs and shoulders of horse, cow or donkey we put some in the bad pile - meaning it was no longer fresh enough for the kittys and had to go to the burning pit. That pile grew to a respectable amount but ...

14ml taxpayers in SA but 16ml receive social grants.
Recognition of 11 official languages was nice to unite ...

... Then on Monday we had two of the babies (Marco and Merlin) and their foster mums (Tink and Ricky) released into their troop. It took all day but they finally managed to get them out of their smaller intro cage and into the large open area surrounded by an electrified fence. They had to make sure two of the other monkeys in the intro cage with them didn't get out, which is why it took so long. It was pretty amazing to see the small part that ...

... to get myself organised and also see if I can still remember how to blog.....

To buy:

  • Lonely Planet guidebook on central/eastern europe (Prague, Budapest etc)
  • Pretty thermal top (I have a few but want another)
  • Thermal pants (have lost weight and the ones I have are sagging)
  • Memory sticks. I am thinking 24gig.
  • Get some euros. ATM's in Europe are fine and plentiful but arriving with cash is nice ...

The Long and Short of It

... will be working on a journalism course with 3rd year students as well as with a Community Engagement course that sends students into Pretoria’s primary schools as well as its prisons to tutor and mentor students there. As time goes along, I am sure that I will have more information to share about each of these projects but for now I am happy knowing that I have a year filled with opportunity that lies ahead.

South Africa, it's time to stand up.
