Over the Atlas Mts. - finding one's way to Meknes

An uncomical comedy of errors - the rustic approach to life inside Morocco Today's start from Tangier was to be an exercise in patience... first with another realization that not all Hertz rentals are the same. After over an hour's wait at the Tangier Airport (again, in the pouring rain), we were finally led to the rental car. At first, it seemed the rental company might have mistaken us for golfers, as we were led to what seemed to be a golf cart instead of a car. Realizing our limited optio...

A long day

3rd October 2008 Khemisset (on the way to Meknes) Lovely and warm We set off early this morning anticipating the horrible traffic we encountered when we left Tangier on a Friday morning, but it was nothing like it. In fact the whole 87kms we did today was a bit of a dream and I have to say the nicest ride we've done in Morocco so far. The road was good, the traffic not too heavy and the countryside was very pleasant. Lots of ...

Early wake up call

... of the wood and metal workshops. In the street there were baskets of left over stale bread that they were making into breadcrumbs, it looked inedible, especially after we'd seen cats walking all over it and probably urinating in it. In the garment district I watched men and young boys winding thread onto cones using old bike tires and hand sewing garments adding intricate edging that ...

... task at hand which seems to be feverishly sucking up honey from the treats. And yes, I have heard all about what clean animals bees are, but I just don't want them on my stuff. [This phenomenon was impossible to capture on film despite the black plague like proportions of them. All shots just looked like rows of cakes with the bees melting into the shadows]. I know Iain mentioned earlier that he braved the bee swarms to pick up some cakes. Erh, no. I ...

Meknes... dernier jour
