Nice People, Lots of Character

Reviewed Dec 18, 2010

The meandering building and its relatively small rooms have a lot of character, with interesting Asian art scattered in unexpected places. (But try to get a room with a window, which some lack.) The large plant-filled patio area is nice, but wear bug repellent. Lots of funny cats and a nice terrier. The guy who runs it is a good guy. We were told by other guests that the activities he booked for them were very competitively priced.

... places with a gaping hole in the middle. A tiny sink and two shower hoses, one for cleaning one's bottom bits and one off hosing down/flushing. I always find it scary looking down at the blur of railway sleepers, as I clutch the pouch containing passports, cards and money, which could so easily disappear downwards. There's no sign on the wall like the old British Rail one: Do not use the wc whilst the train is standing in the station! At about nine the carriage attendant ( if ...

... back to the house in horrendous traffic. It took us about 2 hours to get home and we were late for dinner. It didn't matter though because there was still loads left and it was a very delicious egg-fried rice with bits of chicken and other meats in there. Yummy!

After dinner we had a health tutorial on 'Vital Signs' which I surprisingly knew lots about which I was proud of. Our health teacher (a doctor from the Philippines) was impressed with me and people ...

... acoustic versions of a number of classic so we sat and had a beer. In an attempt to push the issue of our post Laos plans we took time to investigate transport from Vientiane to Hanoi and read an array of horror stories that went with it. Still yet to tip us either way at least now we knew what we were in for if we went with the bus - what's the worst that could happen? Knowing that we were zip lining etc tomorrow we went to bed with expectations high of what we'd come across! ...

... slippery ground. The powerful stream of the waterfall is almost painful as it massages our aching backs and the water is cool and refreshing. It helps Ka forget the itchiness of her first (!!!) mosquito bite on this trip. D and Kr, with their combined 137 bites, are very sympathetic … The rest of the downhill battle is fought trying to cross the river on wobbly rocks and trunks - who needs a steady bridge? Next up - rafting. Ka uses ...
