We arrived in Kaikoura early afternoon and had a look around and what the town has to offer, deciding to book a whale tour from the air for the next day. Danilo also booked the 'Dolphin Encounter', which a dolphin swimming tour with the small and cute Dusky Dolphins that live off the coast of Kaikoura. After that was booked we drove 20 minutes north of town to Ohau river where a 10 minute walk led us to a waterfall in which loads of ...

... place at a submarine canyon 1600m deep and actually the closest submarine canyon to land in the world. This makes it perfect feeding ground for whales! The last bit of the walk was through a pretty forest with lots of mushrooms (pic attached for Dad) ...

But that's just gloomy "nobody-in-their-right-minds-would-get- up-this-early" thinking. It was still pitch black when I was walking to the other side of town. It's odd how I never once feel unsafe in NZ, whereas I'd never walk around in Brussels (or some parts of Antwerp) at this time of ...

Day 174 Kaikora

A travel blog entry by elliotgamble on Mar 08, 2014

As we weren't checking out until tomorrow we used the morning to our advantage. Firstly I had a big, well needed lie in. I then sat in bed most of the morning sorting out photos and catching up with home. It was nice to feel organised as being on the move so much those things get pushed aside. It was midday by the time we left the hostel so after some food took a walk along the beach and spent the day there. We had our night ...
