... Rückfahrt bekam nicht allen gut. Einige Mädels, darunter auch Alex saßen ganz Seekrank im Außenbereich des Bootes. Für die Anderen und mich gab es Kekse und Heiße Schokolade. Nach einer heißen Dusche und ein paar Minuten Entspannung hatte Alex dann auch wieder Farbe im Gesicht. Wir verabschiedeten uns von Kaikoura und sind jetzt wieder unterwegs Richtung Westküste mit dem ersten geplanten Stopp in Hamner Springs.

... the water once the horn blasted. And so we did. I have to say, the first minute I felt a bit panicky. The water felt so cold I had to take a minute and get my bearings. But once looking underwater and spotting the first dolphin passing me by not even a meter, all thoughts of discomfort were completely forgotten. ... knowledgeable about the birds and served us hot chocolate and ginger cookies at tea time!! They take their afternoon tea breaks seriously here ,no matter where you might be. We were launched by a farm tractor!! Actually, we boarded on land onto a 30 foot jet boat, and then backed up into the water. Pretty slick.

Then we speedily zoomed out to sea. At one point he spotted a couple of birds ...

... we are a few miles from Kaikoura it gets even worse. We are driving near the coast with the sea on our left and we can in fact see Kaikoura in the distance further round the side of a bay. We are on the main road south. Suddenly Mrs. Merkel tells me to turn left. It's not an obvious move but I carry out the instruction. We turn on to a little side road which is heading down towards the sea but is not an obvious route to the town we can see in the distance. My doubts ...
