... seeing a little family after a couple of months. That night we went to the Vertigo restaurant for dinner which was incredible and we ate some beautiful food. The vegetarian soup with truffle shavings was a highlight!! The staff also made Mark a birthday cake and gave us a bottle of champagne. Today's Thai tip is that you can help yourself to free bottled water from a cooler after you order...so dinner and a drink sets you back 30baht...less than a quid...dinner chats using hand gestures with surrounding tables are solely optional if you fancy company however they are highly recommended with the dish of the day.

Two older Thai ladies in their 70's gossip away like old friends as the husband of one stares passively at the passing blur. I try a respectful Thai smile and 'wai' greeting; the women are amused and friendly, the man takes no notice. We only stop to top up my oil and stretch our aching legs and ****. But the road is long and boring and I take to singing to amuse myself. I can actually sing almost all the words to Queens Greatest hits album, I know now what I'll be doing should there be another open mike night!
