Wow we had an awesome day today! We had a very early 3.15am start when the fire alarm went off at the hotel. Up out of bed, collected up passports and wallets and started to head out when the alarm got turned off. A few others in the hallway but we all returned to our rooms. Turned out when I asked at check out this morning that a young man sprayed …

Walking the Gap in the Killarney Mountains

A travel blog entry by timsandy on Sep 11, 2013

We did it! Walked the 12 km through the Gap of Dunloe. This was one of the things I had been most looking forward to on our trip. The Gap is a narrow mountain pass between two mountains in Ireland's Killarney National Park.

We were picked up from our hotel (the Old Weir Lodge) and dropped on the north side of the Gap at Kate Kearney's …

Today we head off not entirely sure of how far we are going to get. In an ideal world, we will make it down as far as possibly Cork tonight.

First MUST DO for the day, however, is to get to Cliffs of Moher. Barb visited these cliffs over 20 years ago when she did her walking/ hitching tour around Ireland - this part of the world, however, has stuck firmly in her mind so she is hoping that, unlike some other memories of ...

Today I was blessed to go horseback riding for the first time in my life! I have always been a bit timid with horses because of how massive they are and the fear of getting thrown off/falling off. But today I conquered my fears! I woke up bright and early this morning to catch the 1 and a half hour long bus ride to Killarney in County Kerry. It was a rainy day in Cork so we were hoping it wasn't raining in Killarney. Luckily, ...

... countryside. Stop at Cashel for lunch then back on the coach (again....)for the drive into Killarney.

Arrive at the hotel. About 4pm, we have been bumped from our original booking to a 5 star hotel called the Aghadoe Heights which is about ten minutes drive out of Killarney. the best hotel so far and we get to stay here two nights.

Dinner at a seafood restaurant called Gaby's in the Main Street of Killarney. A great meal and good company.
