Only had 24 hours in Miami which feels like enough. Had a couple of beers at mangoes bar last night in south beach and it proved to be an amazing place. The lights, cabaret shows, salsa dancing and beautiful people having a ball with a very Latino flavour in the air. Part of me wishes I was here on the weekend but Miami is expensive and there will be plenty of partying also the rest of my journey ( first up, 5 nights in rio). ...
One our first night of this travel study, we spent our time learning about Cuba through the lens of Miami. Our previous research had told us that Miami is a strong anchor between Cuba and the US, both geographically and culturally. At the abode of one of our chaperones, Conrad Gleber, we heard from two speakers. Our first was Alyson, an Art History Professor who had spent a lot of time in the non- “Disneyland” parts of Cuba for research. ...
We woke up around 3:00 AM to drive back to CUN (yeah the missus was not happy about that) so we could return our rental car on time and take the earliest flight to Miami. Not without claiming back all the taxes we paid in Mexico while shopping, though! After a very short flight, we were back to reality and straight back to work! ...

3. Vibrant, lively cities but San Diego ticks the most boxes and therefore tops the lot.
4. Bars allowing us in with flip-flops!
5. Hot weather - ranging from 26 deg average in L.A. to 40 deg in Vegas with wind that felt like a hairdryer blowing in your face - but I suspect we would've enjoyed the hot weather less if it wasn't for the beaches and pools.
