... a helpful Canadian helped us decide that we would be moving on through to Sooke (yep, and you say it "souk") instead. Sooke turned out to be lovely - a really helpful lady at the information centre and doing our usual "let's not book where to stay and see what happens" (which can drive my control-freak tendencies into the red zone sometimes) worked a charm. 24/25 July...today we boarded a ferry in Vancouver for a 90 min trip to Victoria. Our first stop is the Buchard Gardens which are expansive, immaculately groomed and themed eg Japanese, Rose, Mediterranean, Sunken etc. An explosion of colour. Such an easy place to walk about here. Our hotel is on Main Street Robson and it is short walk to waterfront and shops. We shopped for a bit then went to lunch at the Revolving Restaurant which was an experience. We both enjoyed. Away out for drinks tonight with Hedy (kit's friend) who lives 24 floors up in an apartment close to waterfront. Had a great evening with Hedy and met her son Peter before he headed out to a movie. Early start in morning as we move away travelling to ...

... big song and dance about its age and historical facades, but between you and me, it’s pretty much the same as the Metropole or the Grand in Brighton or the Dorchester or the Ritz in London. Perhaps I take these for granted as I’m in and out of them all the time doing piano gigs and parties but really, it’s just an hotel.
