... grandeur. Samarkand rose up out of the sand to become a majestic and sophisticated medieval civilization. Timur's second favourite grandson, Ulug Beg (second favourite because he cared more for math and science than for killing people) would later become ruler of Samarkand, establishing it as an intellectual hub in the region. One of the grandest medrassahs in the Registan square is the genius work of Ulug Beg - completed in only 3 years, the medrassah built ...

Entering the dining room was like walking into an antique museum: the room had the ornate cubbyhole shelving, the same ghanch-work as our room but very antique, filled with various treasures. Baking in Bukhara and a menage a trois.

... well put me in with the Demented Dane if I start that behaviour when there's someone in the room with me. Anyway this place looks fantastic- very photogenic. Its not as over restored as Samarkand, the Russians basically left it alone so I'm looking forward to the tour tomorrow as long as it's not too hot. I may well get up around 6ish and see a lot myself before the sun bakes. Hope this blog didn't have "too much information " for you- if so blame the sun!!! Lots of love , Victoria. xxxxxxx
