Long time....no entry
Long time no entry......sorry about the gap in updates but once you read my blog you will understand why. First off let me explain how things work in Ton Sai. You can only get here by boat so it is very isolated. You can hike over the mountain to other beaches that are also isolated. The area only has power during certain times of the day when the …
Lost in translation
I've seen plenty of pictures of English-ish signs that just don't quite get their point across, but I had no idea what a consistent source of entertainment they would be for me on this trip. A few of my favorites: 1) "Foot Oil Thai Face" - Yes, Will Shortz, the answer is "massage." 2) "Beware of your valuable possessions" - My favorite so far. I …
Trains, The Toyota Starlet, and Factory Handcrafts
Greetings from Chaing Mai in the north of Thailand, somewhat near to Burma.
The logistics: Yesterday we left Bangkok on an overnight super express train (2nd class sleeper car) for Chiang Mai, the second largest city in Thailand, but worlds different in size, demeanor, and even climate to a short extent. The trip was simple, the train was …
Cooking Classes, Motorbikes, and Buddhist Monks

The town is pretty big compared to what we …
Motorbikes
Spent the day out and about, traveled to a high mountain temple where we visited with a monk for a couple of hours, he taught us about mindful meditation, and the concept of mindfulness. What a treat to get perspective from around the world.
Attatched to this entry is a video of motorbiking in Thailand. If your name is Mom, you might …

TravelPod Member ReviewsMountain View Guest House Chiang Mai
A good little establishment in the Chiang Phuak (North Gate) area of Chiang Mai. Away from the more tourist frequented places of the city, but close enough to walk when you get the urge. The staff are friendly, as are the mosquitoes, but they usually get managed (the mosquitoes) by regular fumigation. Back rooms are quiet and dark, making it too easy to sleep-in at times. I have stayed here a few times now and it is quite good. recommended if you are after a cheap, yet well presented place to stay.Tip: Ask for a cheaper rate if you are staying for a few weeks or more.
