... mentioned that this zoo had been started by a foreigner who wanted to house his animals when his circus was no longer financially successful. Seemed like nothing had changed much.

Frankly, the image of this place that I shall carry with me is one of two beautiful snow leopards doing a sort of choreographed pas de deux in a tiny, bare cage. I am so glad I got to see these most beautiful and hugely endangered beasts as I had never seen them before ...

... day when I happened upon this place on the Galle Road and thought I would check it out. It is a pretty
typical Colombo hotel bar, pretty dark, clean enough with several men sitting drinking alone at various tables and watching the TV which was the only source of entertainment.

Like most hotel bars there is food available here but I didn't sample it.

Service was quick enough, the prices about average at 250 Rs. for a big bottle

... where we sat in a shaded cafe with all the other white people (Teeks in the minority again of course) while the gaggles of Sri Lankan familys and school trips gathered by the railings on the road. About 30 elephants then stampeded down the road contolled by 4 very small men armed only with sticks. We watched them swim in the river for 2 hours doing the classic water spraying thing. Awesome.

I landed in Colombo International Airport on Monday the 11th of March at around 9pm local time. No Visa stamp in the passport but I was confident I could get one on arrival which should cost me $20 according to google. The same source has mentioned something about a possible long queue for the Visa. To my surprise there was almost no waiting time but the flip side to that was the cost: $35!
