We got up in the morning looking forward to doing some shopping….and finding some sun screen. We realized there was some kind of ceremony going on at the Presidential Palace. We could hear drums and music coming from outside and we could see military personnel lined up in the courtyard of the Palace. It was a great view from our room but we decided to walk over and get a little closer to the action. We stood right outside the gates and watched as a military parade went by. ...

... icecreams, kids playing cricket and lots of couples. We ended up in a bit of a dodgy area and got stopped by three different people. End up being suspicious of everyone there, they're trying to get you to go to the ceremonies or for tea. We made our way back towards the hotel and had dinner in the cricket club cafe which is full of memorabilia from different countries. Conked out by ...

... a sneaking suspicion that this will terminate at Panadura which it does. The next train that takes me the last 2km back to Pinwatte arrives about 20 minutes later just behind an express train which I am glad I don't need to catch as around people are desperately clinging on the outside of the train at each doorway, unable to fit inside the carriage. That's a bit precarious at 60km/h !

A 15 minute walk and time for a swim and a drink. Gasp!
