Day 10: Florence
... and the writer of the Divine Comedy. Come ON!! I geeked out a bit. Not to mention, the cathedral itself was stunning, as we the cloisters and courtyard outside. We headed back to the apartment and Mom cooked us a fantastic pot roast with potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, onions, and a salad. We enjoyed the delicious dinner around the large dining room table, sipped champagne, talked, laughed, and enjoyed the evening. Day 9: Florence
... rest of the group and all went into Santa Maria Novella, which was unbelievable. A 13-century church built on a 10-century cemetery and site, it housed original paintings on which Michelangelo worked, and stained glass windows, frescos, sculptures and tombs from the 11-16 centuries. Our apartment, Zini, is a delight. It is so nice to have room again, separate kitchen, large bedroom and a good size living room with a comfortable sofa. One problem was solved fairly quickly, the TV had no sound so the owner bought us a new one. Second Day in Firenze (Florence)
... the outer walls, tasting great wine and hors d’oeuvres at Porta San Miniato and stumbling into a gelato place overlooking the river. But no ordinary gelato, this was GELATO of artistic flavor! Gelato Artigianale is the only gelato place where the offerings were in stainless steel covered bins. I knew when I saw this it would be different. And, yum, it definitely was.
