Bangkok, Thailand

Day One, Bangkok Thailand. Arriving into Bangkok at 12 O'Clock in the middle of the night, the humidity hitting the skin that had only seen winter for the past 3 months was a typical welcome to most travelers heading into Thailand for the first time. Objective was to find somewhere to stay, and jumping the taxi Que was probably our best decision we made that night. The taxi was air conditioned so i got some relief from the hot and humid conditions. We were dropped of at the top of Khao San Ro...

The North of Thailand!

Ok so we are a bit behind on the blog!!! Elliot is doing some adn i am updating this part!

Chaing Mai was an amazing city! Had a blast here and really miss its laid back charm.
Got off sleeper train and dragged off to a guest house. Didnt like the place and the price they originally told us was about half of what it actually was! Oh well free ride into town, from here we walked in and out of a few guesthouses and finally found one up a quiet alley for great price. Best hotel so far ...

Time to get out of the pollution of Bangkok and head north to Chaing Mai - only booked the night before ... nothing like be impromtu! 5,900 baht for all 3 to travel - equivalent for a qantas 1 hour flight kalgoorlie - perth booked night before = $1200 Chaing Mai is beautiful, warm and much more laid back and friendly than Bangkok. The climate is not unlike Cairns. Our guest house is decorated in colonial style, and very clean and tidy and is run by an ex member of australian fed police and hi...

Chiang Mai Fri.day 5

We headed through the Tha Pae Gates to find somewhere to eat - yep i think this trip does involve trying as much as possible. Meals here are great - very small portions so we're able to try little bits during the day. Sharyn and Kiara also know the rules - never order the same thing and what's yours is also mine to try! After lunch at a little family run place recommended by Lonely Planet, we found another temple and stopped in. We met a man having a quiet moment with Buddha, he was the local...

We are **** ******* around trying to decide what to do and where to go - want to explore Chiang Mai more and also want to head north to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle or north east to either Vientiane or Udon Thani - flights are near impossible unless we return to Bangkok and public transport is out of the question because of the time it takes. We spent some time looking at tourist information as to what other options we have. We gather some brochures and head back to the guest house to c...

Breakfast at our local cafe at the end of our Soi, banana pancakes and coffee. Kosin and his family arrived on time at 8am with his wife Olay, his 2nd daughter Dew and his granddaughter Ohmi (daughter of 1st daughter who was at work) First stop was to see the elephants at the Maesa Elephant Conservation Park. It's about a half hour drive out of Chaing Mai. We arrived in time for a half hour ride on the elephants, which would bring us back just in time to see the display of working elephants s...

Volunteering for a week at elephant nature park

... as physically demanding as the elephants. You have to shovel disguisting buffalo poo into a wheel barrow then dump the wheel barrow out, hose down the shed and use brooms to get the rest of the poo up. There were kids that were only staying at the park for a day that helped the first time we did it. It was pretty funny because the younger of the two boys was trying to help but was flinging his shovel in the air with poo in it and got it all over his arm ...

Lions & Tigers and Elephants Oh My!

... wondering why there was an entire stinky, dead crab in the mix. We soon were directed to put the entire crab, shell and all, into the stone grinder and crush it into the salad. It may have been a decent salad had it not been for the stinky crab flavor and chunks of crab shell. At the end of the day we all received certificates and cookbooks to take home with us. It was a very fun experience that left our bellies very full and made us excited to test ...

... a black dog decided to get up and walk out, which I had not seen sat in there at all when I entered! After lunch, we went rafting on bamboo rafts. They were around twenty feet long, with eight poles tied side b y side. Four of us sat one behind the other, with a guide stood at the front. A short way in to the ride, I was offered the chance to guide the raft from the front, which felt like being on a gondolier in Venice! The water had been ...
