Nessie
... The Loch was perfectly flat and it is very dark in color, the gentleman doing the guide talk said this was because of the stain from bracken etc that washes into it, apparently visibility is only about 3 meters. We did not see Nessie, but he believes something is afoot and it could happen anytime. Loch Ness
We arrived at our accommodation after driving through the Highlands and plenty of snow. The Highland Club is an old converted Abbey . We were in the old school house in self contained accommodation but with access to the old Abbey and its surrounds. A little closer to home - Inverness and Beauly
... despite huge tourist signs at either end of Cawdor township we could not find a sign in Cawdor that would direct us to the castle. Very annoying. This area close to Culloden which has great local significance being the site of the last great battles of independence from the English. A trek across the Highlands to the Isle of Skye
... as well as ascending and descending hills - keeps speed down to less than an average of 100km/hr. Later in the morning the road deteriorates to one lane with many passing bays. Makes for interesting but demanding driving as there are vehicles heading the opposite direction at regular intervals. Nessie
... and where a lot of Nessie sighting have occurred . The castle is awesome. We wander around the ruins taking in the history of the place and enjoying the ability to just walk around a castle at seems to be untouched for hundreds of years. The kids love it. We loved it. We climb to the top and look out over Loch Ness to try a catch a glimpse of Nessie but alas she wasn't too be seen. We thought we might have spotted her but it was only a flock of ducks.
