Paraguay: Take 2

... I was offered a free lift by the dam people... how very kind!

The museum was interesting as it focussed on the displaced Guarani people and showed some of their artefacts. There are still a few people continuing a very basic way of life hunting in the countryside, though as more and more land is being taken up for cattle farming it's doubtful they will continue for much longer.

The zoo, on the other hand, was rather ...

... huge amounts of water every second, which all just seemed to stretch out into the distance. Due to recent high rainfall the falls were carrying a hell of a lot of water, much more than when I first visited, and the island in the middle was closed as the boat landing place was flooded. Still, it all made for a mightily impressive sight.

I walked around for several hours taking it all in. It was pretty damn hot and quite humid but along ...

Hell? Close Enough...

... The relief was indescribable. But it quickly turned to panic once more as we approached the border and I knew that I needed my entrance stamp. I fully expected the driver to speed off and leave me once again but, mercifully, he waited for everyone to complete their formalities before continuing.

Sigh. It was a pretty stressful couple of days, even if it doesn't translate in the blog. If you read on to the next entry you will see how things improved in my new country: Argentina!

Iguazu Falls wow factor 9!

... to see any going on previous experience.
After drive through the sub tropical forest we arrive at the boat landing where we are given a dry bag and life vest. Anything to be kept dry goes in the bag, everything else will be very wet!Thank heavens for Tena pants! Oh I forgot them today.
OK off we go towards the falls swerving into various rapids on the way, just to kick up a bit of spray and set the tone for the trip. Screams are an optional ...

... show; the dancers were very skilful, particularly the leader who was a bloke with long greased hair held back with an alice band, a goatee, and an incredibly confident, intense stare - he definitely looked the part. I started chatting to this couple who just happened to be sat next to me and Troy; I mentioned that I`d just finished law school, and the bloke - John - asked which one. When I told him, amazingly it turned out that he`d been on my course with me - we hadn´t ...

Off to Paraguay for a quick beer...

... to find anywhere to sit for a drink. Eventually we managed to find some small little cafe and had a few ridiculously cheap beers before crossing back over to Brazil.

Planning on having an early night tonight and leaving to see the falls in argentina tomorrow
It all Falls down...

We got up after 5 hours of sleep (which has become pretty standard now) and got packed for the bus to the Iguacu Falls. As we were in Brasil we figured we woul spend the first day on the Brasil side of the Falls, stay at a hostel near by, then get a bus to the other side in Argentina and head to Buenos Ares straight after seeing the Falls from that side.

So we got the night bus to Foz de Iguacu ... I had drwan the short straw so had to sit at the front of the bus on my own, whch ...

... told us to go upstairs to another office, when we got there nobody was in sight, so we asked again and were taken to another office where they supposedly phoned up for somebody to help as all the computers had crashed. After a wait of 40 minutes we went in search for somebody ourselves. We actually found the man who was dealing with our case, so off we went to check Kirsty and moped after that back upstairs to do the paperwork. It seems the computers ...

Iguazu: Witnessing the Majesty of Falling Water

... inside the Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat) yet! The Brasilian side of the Falls gives a good panoramic view of what is on tap, but the main catwalk is pretty far away from most of the waterfalls. We went to the end of the platforms, took pictures and got a great aerial view from the high tower. It was also a cloudy day and we were fortunate to have better weather from the Argentine side.

After visiting the Falls for a couple of hours, we ...

Crossing the friendship bridge from Brazil is a very simple task involving no customs or even passports, although a certain number of cars crossing the border are pulled over and checked, for us it was a simple task and the first difference about Paraguay that strikes you is the poverty ...
