Phnom Penh to Siem Reap- Temples of Angkor

18/10 An early wake up as we need to be on time to get our boat from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. A quick 6am breakfast then out to meet the ever reliable Mr. Wah. He took us the sort journey to the River front for which Deb paid him the princely sum of $10. The trip should only cost $1 but Deb wanted to thank him for being so reliable (I thought $5 was ample reliability reward!) After the slightly better than pedestrian pace of the trusty Tuk-Tuk we wondered what we'd be in for with our chug alo...

Tomb Raider

Siam Reap is lovely, the hotel is lovely, the people are lovely. It's just what we needed after our few days of travelling and boats and dodgy tours and hotels. Last night we went out for cocktails and dinner and really relaxed. The today we got up early and went to some of the tombs. We have hired a tuk tuk which is like a little carriage towed by a moto and our driver is called Sukry but his nickname is Sugar and he is lovely. We went to Prah Thom which is where some of Tomb Raider was made...

Angkor Wat

Last night we went to a really cool bar called the dead fish tower inn, where they have crocodiles in a pool! Mental. They have a section on the menu called scary food. We didn't eat there! I think i have a touch of heatstroke today so this will be short and sweet. This morning we went to Bentey Sreai which is a bit far out but our trusty tuk tuk made it and it was worth the trip. The temple is made from a pink coloured stone and it has the most beautiful carved stone. It was really packed th...

Break for the Border

Today we got the $30 bus to Siem Reap via a night in Kampon Cham. We could have tried to do it as seperate legs but thought it could be a lot more hassle and oppertunity to be scammed, especially at the border. Once past the Laos custom check the bus pulled off onto a single track jungle road for about 1 1/2 hours. Felt like we were on the run trying to escape detection across the border. At the Laos exit point we paid a $1 to get out, next we had to walk 100m to the Cambodian border where a ...

Similans - Vientiane - Luang Prabang - Siam Reap

WARNING, VERY LONG BLOG UPDATE! Sorry again for the tardy update but we've been travelling a fair bit and either not been near a decent internet connection, seeing the sights or in transit.... Anyway, this entry comes to you from Siam Reap and covers my time back in Samui, onto Phuket and then to the liveaboard in the Similans, the journey from there to Bangkok and into Laos and then into Cambodia. So, to where I left off..... We relaxed at the Sandy resort in a quieter area called Baphut Bea...

... say no to them when they ask you to "please-please" buy something in front of their kids. So more often than not, Felicia and I bought stuff that we didn't really want but got anyways. Overall, it was a super fun day, but we are beginning to feel very very tired, from the lack of sleep and the constant heat and humidity. Tomorrow's schedule also doesn't help, since we are planning to wake up at 3:30am to catch the sunrise over Angkor Wat. Nite-Nite.
