... be and ended up being the best veal and olive oil drenched potatoes I have ever tasted. We are now back in camp after walking back up the million steps chilling out writing this sitting on step beside reception as it is only place to get wifi but at least here it is free (we have paid almost everywhere in Italy for wifi) Tomorrow we head for a better place on French Riviera between Monaco and Nice if it is any good we will stop for 2-3 ...

We arrived on Friday evening to a warm welcome from our friends Cassandra and Ian and while we sipped wine on their terrace the washing machine was very very busy. They live in a south eastern suburb of Genoa and I was impressed with the area, it had everything, supermarkets, clothes and shoe shops, fishmongers and green grocers and a very nice Italian post office run almost entirely by cheerful women. It's great being away on this trip ...

... city is very compact and squeezed by the mountains which come right down to the sea. We went for a quick drive into the hills but it was a stormy night and the visibility poor.

... after this, I can make what I want, when I want, and take a break when I feel it's appropriate. Hopefully I still feel this enthusiastic during the Atlantic crossing when I haven't left the boat for several days.

It's pretty cool being on the boat and watching people walk/sail by admiring it in awe. She really is a beauty.

... Italy and I was very pleased to leave!

Quick additions from Stu:
Genoa is a bit rough around the edges, some lovely old palazzos and squares, but a few dodgy areas too (including our hotel). Had a lovely dinner overlooking the harbour and watching the sun go down, and it was worth a quick day stop to break up what would otherwise have been a 7 hour train journey...
