    ... which he later explained means, River Beach). We get out and go for a walk along a bit of the beach and find a fish washed up on shore. He tosses it into a little swimming hole in between some rocks, convinced that it will swim away, “alive, little bit.” We continue walking and on the way back we notice that the fish is .. well .. not alive. He brings it along with us, of course, because he’s a fisherman .. duh.

    ... br> The site is interesting and the representations of how historians believed the palace to be are certainly impressive. Our guide for the day had a well worn book with illustrations that (if we could have seen them through the sea of IPads taking photos) show how it probably was. There are books like this throughout Greece - they show a photo of the current ruins and an overlay that shows how it was .....in the beginning! ...

    We left Chania early on Thursday morning by bus and headed for Heraklion, the capital of Crete. It is a larger city and many say it isn't too interesting but we liked the feel of it, especially after the crowded, noisy old city of Chania.     Well the morning was overcast and there wasn't a sunrise but I was ready for it!

    By 09:00 we were up, fed, checked out, and taxied down to the ferry in a bit of a harem scarem way. Those drivers were nuts!! Honking and speeding and .. Did I mention speeding?!!
