... 500m of manicured gardens leading up to massive fountain over 50m wide, at the base of a hill, which you walk up to a look out point. The view from here is stunning of the palace, it's grounds & Vienna itself. We did a short tour of inside the palace as well, but we found this seemed similar to the palace we saw in Amsterdam. Franz-Joseph was a very diligent man, and was quoted as saying “One must work until he is completely exhausted.” His office was decorated with two large paintings of Sisi with her long hair down and even one shoulder revealed, a very provocative pose for the time. The tour ended in the family dining room, where Franz-Joseph would host private ...

... frequented by tour boats going to Black Sea. Our last night was spent in Vienna. We stayed in a Mercur Biedermeier Hotel. It was decorated in the Biedermeier style with lots of sitting rooms and cozy areas. Breakfast was always a big assortment of cheeses, meats, breads, along with traditional fare. Our farewell dinner was on the outskirts of town in an old wine producing region. Wine houses lined the streets in an older part ...
