      Touring Tour

A travel blog entry by lcmckay on Oct 18, 2014

Today we said good bye to our French hosts and head to Tour for the night. I really wanted to spent at least one night here as I had built myself up to visiting while back home and I'm so glad we did. We arrived around lunch time and spent the afternoon wandering the streets and shopping, it is a beautiful town just like most in central France. I spend far too much shopping I think I am all shopped out now my bag ...

We have decided to stay so that we can have a leisurely wander around Tours. The acorns made us laugh as they bounced off the roof. The most entertaining time is when an acorn bounces off the satellite dish. It's a resonating ping! Tours is not as beautiful as Nantes, but it is a big shopping centre. We were able to get some warm clothes for David. We came across a street market, visited the Gare and ...

We had a late start as we did not have far to travel. Most of the time we were on totally straight roads. We could see the road miles in the distance. A lot of the time it was white line down the middle, so occasionally we would be leading a train of lorries and cars. We always try to pull off at a layby when we have acquired several followers. Snooper directed us through the centre of Tours which was a bit of ...

... proceeded to walk all around the castle to look for the door in, went up 100 more steps- yes more, wondered through narrow streets & finally found the way to the door in. The reason why we had gone to Anger was because they had tapestries made in the 14th century. - commissioned in 1373. These tapestries were on the apocalypse. They were just extraordinary and Geoff just had to buy a book on them. After the tapestries - it was 2.00pm we had lunch at the ...

... we visited last year) but it was close, we liked the joint, and didn't necessarily have to go to the actual castle. We found a terrific camp, just over the bridge and on an island in the river, opposite the castle, so we dug in there, and stayed for 2days eventually, despite it having the world's worst wifi which I never actually managed to connect to - I'm quite sure it actually sucked the credit out of my iPad.....and at one attempt I waited for almost 30 ...
